Interesting, when I do a search for the shocks at Advanced Auto Parts, it shows the 5870s but says they are not available at this time.

Is anyone else seeing this? I can stop by local but wanted to check on availability in Tampa...

Yeah I saw that...I went to the store and they had to order mine they said it would take a day...luckily they were in stock in their wareouse. I got the last ones in my warehouse closest to me but I know they have some in lakeland or lakeworth fl so you should be ok.

Yeah, they were out of stock in my area too, i got a Georgia and a south carolina shock Oh well. I have them, they are installed and i couldnt be happier.

You can see from the pic that the new shocks are a little shorter than the old ones and about twice as thick....

Always get your old stuff back. You never know when you might need one as a replacement. Also, it only took 15-20 mins to change these things.

I couldn't put on the shocks (5870) with the stock equipment Tom explained on the first page. The bolt wasn't long enough I used the bottom part then I used the rubber piece and washer that came with the shocks for the top...

Just had a pair of Monroe 5987s put on the rear of my 2005 R.S. 2.0. xB. Both I and My wife drove it around on some bumpy roads and there is definitely a difference. BTW - we have about 30K miles on the car now.

One other point - My mechanic's distributor could not find the shocks listed under the Scion xB but, as stated previously, under the Echo.

Worth the investment. (Now I have to decide if we want to do it on our two other xBs.)

I'm sure you've already done this, but you should go back and get your stock stuff.
240 for the part plus install? Ouch.

I just put a set on last night, And they make it alot better ride on the ruff roads.
I am on hotchkis right now for a 1 1/2 inch drop, soon going to df210's for a 2 inch drop.

Well worth the $44 dollar investment.

5870's are for the rear. You should go and get a pair of them and put them on for a smother ride.

I put mine on in under 20 min, and i only jacked up one side of the car. Jacked up the drivers side and put that one on, and looked at the other side and decided just to reach under the car and do the other side right away. shocks are simple to change out.

5870s are an option ONLY if you have lowered your vehicle 2" or more, otherwise the 5987s are the much better choice, since they mount and fit the same as the OEM shocks (the 5870s do NOT).

Front struts are a different deal entirely...

Sensatrac front strut # 71575 originally for the Echo sedan.

This will add 1/2 inch to your front drop, however, since the spring perches are mounted 1/2 inch lower on the Echo strut.

By the end of the year there will be Sensatracs designed specifically for the xB - see the post about that on page one.

Find the tech article on replacing the rear shocks with the Koni's in the Tech area. Use that and Tomas's info on the first page of this thread and you will have them changed in less then 30 minutes. Only thing that they don't mention is you really need deep 14 and 17mm sockets.

Good luck!
