Monroe Shocks..
I thought that the Gabriels were different shocks completely. I thought others said the Monroes were available at Autozone, but maybe not. Anyways, for the same care at Advanced Auto they have the Monroe's. I'll more than likely get the monroes after looking around town to see who has the best price. I have to get new shocks since I re-did my airbag brackets in the rear and the stock shocks keep my car from laying out fully.
thanks
thanks
Thanks Jeff for the suggestion on the 17's. I kinda anticipate that its still goin to be rough with the 18's. For the meantime i'll try the struts and shocks first. But i'll definitely get the 215/40/17 that you suggested when i already have enough $$$. hehehe. Thanks everyone.
Is the model 5870 monroe shocks for the xA the same as these cars listed here?
TOYOTA CELICA GTS (1983 - 1985)
TOYOTA CRESSIDA (1978 - 1980)
TOYOTA CRESSIDA LUXURY (1981 - 1984)
TOYOTA STARLET (1981 - 1984)
TOYOTA SUPRA (1982 - 1986)
Are all model 5870 monroe shocks the same?

I like the set up of DF210's with the Monroe's from the echo in the rear...best blend f comfort and handling....when you use this set up with 18's as I have the ride quality is just fine as the damping smooths it out....
I can tell you I have run 5 or 6 different set ups in my car.....
on a budget the Monroe's are great.....if you got the bank go Koni
present set up btw with about 75,000 miles is Progress coil overs with Konis in rear

ok so now a 3rd shock is thrown in the mix?? i'm following this thread, read the entire thing, and there seems to be no solid agreement. so which is it for a 2" lowered XB...
5987
5870
5601
can Tomas or any other of the knowledgeable folk here come to a final conclusion because i just don't see one yet.

5601 = stock height, softer ride, standard OEM installation
5870 = lowered more than 1.5 inches, softer ride, custom installation
The 5987 and 5601 fit just like stock shocks, the 5870 does not.
The 5987 and 5601 both give a softer ride, the 5601 gives more damping than the 5987, and is a bit better for "spirited" driving while the 5987 is a bit better for comfort.
Why do the 5870 Not fit like stock shocks? Because I just got mine today and they bolted in just like the stock ones. They are the best shock for a vehicle extremely lowered, my car layed out and I still have almost 2 inches of compression left in the shock.
From one of the 17 other threads on this...

Pretty much.
It would be off centered and one direction of travel (extension) would be able to travel too far before the valving even thought about tightening up, while the other direction of travel (compression) would already be tight with even the slightest deflection, so the ride could be both brutal and lacking in damping - the worst of both worlds.
It is best to use a variable damping shock like the Sensatrac at it's design height, or pretty close to it.

5987 = stock height, much softer ride, standard OEM installation
5601 = stock height, softer ride, standard OEM installation
5870 = lowered more than 1.5 inches, softer ride, custom installation
For 5870, what do you mean custom installation. Could you DYI? or you have to have a service shop to do it for you.

It is not that installation is all that difficult, but that the physical design of the 5870 is different and includes a permanently attached dust shield.
This means that if one installs the 5870 one does NOT install the stock dust shield or the stock bump stop for the suspension, because it will NOT fit.
