Default My custom A Pillar Brace

I was trying to find other places in the Box that could use some reinforcement but haven't been given attention by the major manufacturers. I think this is a helpful add-on that complements what the front Strut Tower Bar begins. It also takes some of the stress off of the windshield, which actually supports a lot of the weight of the roof. It's still in the prototype stages, the final version will be black. If there's enough interest, I might look into producing more of them. Hand-crafted from square aluminum tubing to stick with the "Box" theme. Please give me feedback and suggestions are welcome too:

I've seen the b-pillar braces on here before and if memory serves, they bolted into the b-pillars themselves. Are there brackets connecting to the a-pillars under the headliner, or is that thing bolted directly to the roof?

Yeah, I need to smooth the boltheads off on the outside and paint them to match and it should be hardly noticable...

you could always use them to mount a lightbar or something to go along with all the camo...

pretty cool looking. i can see where it would help the windshield possibly due to the weight there.

even if it doesnt, it just looks cool Mark

I really can't see how that is going to be beneficial. If you want that kind of bracing, it would probably be best acchieved by using a rollcage. I don't think anyone here drives an xB hard enough that that style of bracing is going to be of any benefit... especially with an automatic xB.

true dat Romanova. Honestly, The strut brace does VERY little as it is. This thing looks like it bolts to an existing brace (the roof support above the windshield?)...please correct me if I'm wrong. If you want support there, you need to criscross them from bottom of drivers side to the top of pass. side and vise versa....but that would not be possible. Come on...is there really that much flex, IF ANY at the window/roof line?

I wasn't aware that the a-pillars didn't support the weight of the roof as you say the windshield does. If I take my windshield out, will the roof collapse? And for that matter, you're just adding MORE weight (although minimal)for the windsheild to "support".

If you feel this is beneficial, go for it...but looking at the pics, it isn't even tied into the a-pillar. It is mounted to an existing support that is already there. To get the benefit, if any, you need to extend it and lower it and attach it to the A-pillar itself. I'm not Flaming you, just pointing out what I see.
You need to look into a book on chassis building and handling. They sell it through Summit and local book stores such as Barnes & Noble. Also the Hot Rod welding & fabrication books always have ideas for roll cages and such.

i think to actually act as a brce, it would have to be extended so that it is actually attached at, near, or over the apex of the a-pillar/roof. The way it is attached; I don't think it is really reinforcing anything significant. but it is a good idea. (sorry, i guess everythng was already said above)

lie i said, a good idea. I think we would all like something that is cost effectiive, functional, that looks good too.
