Default What springs does everyone else have on a xB?

If you are a n00b like me you've constantly wondered... what's the best springs to get for my box if I want to X...?

Well I've realized that that's usually a pretty nonproductive question.
I'm relatively sure only a few people here have experience with more than one spring. Most people... only get one brand of springs... and never change them.
Those people are usually also quite biased towards the springs they have.... since, well, people like to think they have the best stuff. Which then leaves you with only the people who talk about the springs they don't have... and that doesn't quite make sense does it?

So since I was super bored waiting for a HDD recovery to finish.. I decided to aid you people in the vain search for answers ... as well as answering a few for myself...

I present to you...

What springs do people actually have?
(sorry for the long preamble... I like to hear myself... err umm type)

What I did:
I combed through all the pages of the registry (yes all 116 of them for the xB) and spreadsheeted everyone's suspension mods... except the people who had none... or were simply unclear about what they had (hence there will be a decent error margin).

What this will tell you:
Well it'll tell you which are the most popular springs... its really up to you to figure out why though.. but this is like people voting with their wallets. It'll also let you figure out why there's a bias towards certain springs. Lastly... well... its usually "safe" to follow the masses.

Ok so on with the data!!!
Key
Percentage/Info/Raw Number

Sample Size: 814 Entries

By Brand
18.7% use TRDs!!!! (152)
18.3% use Stock Springs with other suspension mods (149)
13.1% use Tein (107)
12.2% use Goldlines (100)
10.2% use Tanabe (83)
05.3% use Eibach (43)
04.2% use Hotchkis (34)
03.8% use some sort of air suspension set-up. (31)
03.7% use Spy Springs (30)
03.4% use some sort of coilover or cup kit (27+1=28)
02.5% use Sprint Performance (20)
01.0% use RS*R (8)
00.9% use Arospeed (7)
00.5% use Megan Racing (4)
00.5% use Espelir (4)
00.4% use B+G (3)
00.2% use H&R (2)

The rest only had 1 or 2 and weren't really noteworthy except that they were imported from japan.

Tein Breakdown (107)
62.6% Tein S (67)
18.7% Tein H (20)
18.7% Unspecified Tein (20)

Tanabe Breakdown (83)
81.9% DF210 (68)
06.0% NF210 (5)
12.0% Unspecified Tanabe (10)

Springs by Popularity
1. TRD
2. Gold-Line
3. Tein S
4. Tanabe DF210
5. Eibach Pro-kit
6. Hotchkis
7. Spy Engineering
8. Tein H
9. Sprint Performance
10. RS*R Down
11. Arospeed
12. Eibach Sportline?
13. Tanabe NF210?
14. Megan Racing
15. Espelir
16. B+G
17. H&R Sport (1)
18. H&R Race (1)
19. HKS SF5 (1)

Observations:
A lot more people have sprint and eibach springs than I would have thought.
Oddly, Tein S techs as plentiful as Tanabe DF210... but everyone talks about the latter.
TRD is number 1!!!!! This is probably due in part b/c its a dealer option.
Arospeed? I think those might be the ebay sleeve coilover springs...
As i suspected... very few NF210 owners
No one owns Progress Technology Springs???

Thats some good stuff right there.
It would be interesting to see how many of the TRD owners got 'em put on because they could finance them in.

Great work.

Other interesting facts...
The most common mod other than springs were:

42.1% had Front strut bars (343)
10.0% had Sway Bars (81)
09.6% had Shocks/Struts (78)

Most common front strut bars:
45.2% Hotchkis (155)
21.6% DC Sports (74)
16.6% Did not specify the make (57)

Due to the large number of unspecified makes... it is difficult to determine what strut bar is the next most common. A large number of those unspecified most likely indicate the dealer option hotchkis bar (since that's what most people will probably mean when they just say "strut bar"). Similiarly, the people who say "TRD" (the third most common excluding the unspecified) could also mean the Hotchkis bar.

Most common sway bars:
75.3% use Hotchkis ONLY (61)
14.8% use Progress Technology ONLY (12)
03.7% use a Hotchkis/Progress Combination (3)

Of the people who use Hotchkis only... 2 people use only the rear sway bar, and 1 person uses only the front sway bar (weiiird).

The most common shocks&struts are TRDs ... period... in fact.. there are no other reported ones other than coilovers, cup kits and stock. Some people have specified TRD WAYDO... which is apparently the JDM TRD shocks/struts for their SUV line-up (Rav4s and whatnot). I don't know exactly what the deal with that is... if anyone can enlighten me...

TRD Waydo is what my local scion dealer gave me. I only use the rear shocks since the rest of my car is on air. Springs are a joke when it comes to slamming the box...

I dont think that the Progress Springs had hit the market when this was posted ( 3/05 ). I ran the H Techs for about a year and loved the ride, but wanted a bigger drop. From them i went into the Progress Springs ( light blue in color ). The ride is incredible and the look was what i was looking for. My GF like the ride so much that i changed hers over from GoldLines to the 2nd gen Progress Springs ( sliver in color ).
