Its not one thing specific that stops your car better then stock, its several things combined. IF you have a quality tire and IF you have upgraded brake pads and IF you have steel braided lines that wont bludge out and IF you have a higher temp brake fluid then all those together help you stop better then stock.
Bad brakes and good tires arent going to stop you from kissing the @ss end of the car in front of you.

Stock rotors are usually BEST! Highest quality, least resistant to warping, etc.
When it was time to change the rotors on my Z, I went with some EBC drilled ones... since Stillen was selling them cheaper then the wholesale OEM ones were.. and guess what? They warped. Big time and quickly. This was back before slotted rotors were available. Once they were THEN folks started admitting that drilled rotors will warp. Heck, some sites now even state that drilled are for show, not race.
Of course, that was with a 400+ HP 3600lb car...
Now I have some new rotors waiting for the Xbox in the living room... from Stop Tech.

I opted for the slotted rotors from them, since other folks with more $$$ then me found the Stop Tech brake kits to be a very good upgrade to their Zs.
These will be added, along with some Porterfield R4-S pads/shoes, braided lines, and Motul RBF600.
The rotors may be overkill but I've been unkind to the stockers (60k miles, hard driving, lots of FULLY loaded cross country trips w/crappy Autozone pads tearing them to heck...) but the combination of fresh trued surfaces, the pads, lines, and fluid should make this box have better initial braking then the Z did... gotta love that 2600lb curb weight... a thousand lbs requires a heck of a lot more brakes!
And yes, I have larger tires too.... 205/60 15s... that made a huge difference in ride quality period... I'm looking forward to finally doing the brakes "right", and eventually adding some shocks and a rear sway bar.
I'll be leaving the springs alone, unless it's for some adjustable coil-overs with stock rate springs, to lower my ride height since it was RAISED with the larger tires. On a positive note, I believe the speedo is accurate now, but I haven't verified this with a GPS unit.
