I wonder why companies are able to knockoff other designs without getting sued? I know design patents are really hard to come by (due to the subjective nature of originality), but you would think a top tier company like SSR/Tanabe would take care of stuff like that. At my company, we patent everything, or at least try to.

 

The reason why companies who knock off other wheel designs is because it isn't an exact replica of the wheel being copied. The design may look very similar but when it comes to certain angles of the face and so on, it's not a direct copy. It sucks that this happens but thats just the way things are. You get what you pay for ether it being SSR or rota. If your gonna spend a couple grand or more on some wheels, host likely they are gonna be the ish like SSR. Spend $400 for some rota's, i woudn't be surprised if they cracker .

However, some high-end wheel companies aren't that great either(USA mulitpiece brands).

 

don't worry sp1's got some good knock off's. only difference i could see was that it wasn't a 3 piece rim. but the way they painted the rim if you didn't know you'd be fooled. it's sad too i've seen people say they were selling professor sp1's when you ask what happened to the center cap they say they lost it. but of course to closer inspection you can see no gap between rim face and lip.

don't worry just priced another set i'm looking to get. $700 a rim. that's no tire too. so i guess that'll be in a few months.

 

What are the names of these wheels? They are bad as hell with that deep lip in the rear.

 

The name is on the top of the pic lol. But they are SSR GP-O Evolution;s. 17x9 +6 and 17x10 -1
