Seems kinda silly that the only responses here are from those who do not have the rubbing problem.
I do have this problem. I have V-rated Kumho 711's - 215/45/17, 17 x 7 ADR rims with 40 offset or 35 offset (w/spacer). The car has been lowered with Tein S-Techs (~1.8").
I think the problem is primarily from car manufacturing tolerances since most cars do not see this problem. The tires rub on small steel plate in the wheel well (normally coated with the black undercoating). This problem may not occur if my car was lowered less (~1").
One thing to mote is that the tires rub only slightly when the wheel is turned about 75% and probably will not rub as the tire wears down. The directional tread Kumho's make quite a racket in reverse rubbing.
To ensure no posibility of rubbing on my car, I am going with 215/40/17's or possibly smaller 215/45/17's. Tirerack.com measures the actual tire diameter and section width. Not all 215/45/17's are exactly the same. Slightly smaller width and diameter would help in my case.
All in all, if you do rub, you probably won't rub much.

Well, Chris, I asked many people about it. And as you see here, some say yes and some say no. That's why I figured I'd ask. Jeff also said there may be rubbing. So, now I dunno...

i never said i didnt have rubbing issues. I do, at full turn. I am running a 3MM spacer in the front. I have this because someone told me when i was looking into pruchasing wheels a year ago to get the spacers. Turns out that i would need them cause the wheel i chose will rub againt the brake calipers.
I have the One Ton Garage shims in the rear. I did this to push the rears out more. I was tired of looking like a SPED cause my rears were set in so much compared to the fronts.

Well, I didn't phrase it correctly. I meant to ask IF I put 215/45/17's on my car, will they rub? I've heard from several people, some say yes and some say no. I guess I'll have to take my chances. I'm not lowered or anything, so I don't see it being a problem. It's less than an inch difference from stock wheels. And there's a big gap all around with stocks. So, I'm thinkin' it won't be a problem...

I have both 17x7 rims, 1 set has 38 offset, the other 40 offset. tires are 215/45/17 no rubs. then I put 5mm spacer in front(40-5=35), 10mm shim at rear(40-10=30) , this is just to make the wheel a little more flush to the fender, still no rubbing. and i'm even lowered with s-tech(1.7, 1.5).
so if your set-up is near this 3 set-up i've done, you should not have any rubbing.
