Does the winter ruin your rims?
I would say it is the salt more then anything...it eats away everything...this is why I am going to garage my car for the winter...plus my car is lowered....ice equals sliding into foreign objects
being from the Detroit area, it is my experience that snowy cold winters destroy everything. Rims. Cars. Hope. Life. Cold winters destroy everything.
(Of course, I now live in southern California. You can take that snow and shovel it up your butt, Detroit.)

Its always a good idea to swap your steelies back on for the winter (if you still have them) Like said above the salt is what kills everything, plus if you go for a "little" skid into a curb or something you wont ruin your nice wheels.
Winters that have salted wet snowy roads ruin rim surfaces. I assumed when I clicked on this post I'd see several "bears in the woods" and "popes with tall hats" kinds of posts but apparently that's just my mind set.
Salt is not good for metals.
In CA, winter has a relatively lessened effect on rims because the rainy season is less harsh than the snowy season. Folk intervene when it snows.....but living near the ocean does have an effect (but that's from more of a "butt dyno" type perspective. I can't prove that assertion.)

My stock tC wheels are holding up well but they've only been through one Chicago winter so far (Chicago winter = SALT). Then again, I do wash my car about every week, even in the winter and I always deatil my wheels. Call me crazy, but I HATE a dirty car.
I've always kept my stock wheels so I could mount snow tires on them. Low profile
tires don't do as well in the snow and I never wanted to run the chance of ruining my
custom wheels.
