Finally mounted my Work Wheels...**Pics**
Brian: car looks very bad ___ man! Gold wheels definitely work so well against blue cars!
As supporting evidence for what I've always said using offset numbers only as more of a general guideline, than as gospel, I came across a set of staggered Work Head 40 wheels from Japan with a 9" wide rear wheel, with an offset in the low 30s also (I believe it might have even been 33mm) that were custom made for a bB, and I believe they *just* fit on there fine. I suppose the different lip designs (curl vs. flange, etc...) might have accounted for the differences between the Head 40s fitting, and the VS-XXs not. But anyway, there's always a learning curve when you're the first to try something like this out. As it stands though, I'm glad overall fitment is still good, and the ultimate effect is a very nice looking xA.
Understeer... isn't too big an issue if all you're doing is driving your car daily from and to work! In fact, I used to hate mods made purely for appearances (i.e. neon lights, painted panels, crazy stereo systems, etc.). But with the Scions, I've learned that we should realize that they are NOT sports cars, and they were NEVER intended to be from the start. So there's no confusion that they are just cool little cruisers, and as such, the most worthwhile modifications to perform on them are whatever you think makes them look good for what you use the car for: driving around. Of course, it doesn't hurt if you mod them to perform a little better too... :)
EDIT: Oh yah, I think that as his car is set up right now, Brian's rear wheels will probably scrub a little while driving. Usually, when running wide wheels-above 8" in width on the Scion-you'll want to stretch a normal-sized tire over the wheels to maintain clearance with the fenders. Of course, in this case, Brian wanted the meatier look of a wider tire, and the look is pretty mean... it reminds me of a muscle car... albeit a small, 4-door muscle car! >HAHA< Anyway, I believe that with a slight camber and some fender rolling, he should be able to roll around even on those wide tires.

Here's an update, with pictures...

Alright, so, I have 1/2 inch spacers on here. Clearance on the inside is just fine. It does rub on the outter fender, but it'll be easy to fix that. All I am going to need to do is roll the fender a little. Other than that, the clearance is just fine. It sticks out past the fender about 1/2 an inch. It's noticible from the front or back, due to the way the fenders are shaped.
The car actually sits higher with those rims on. I have the 5Ziegen springs from Van on the car. There isn't a lot of spring travel which is good. The car is resting right now. I've been driving it way too much, so I just have it parked.
Bottom line, 18x9 are doable, but it will take a little bit of patience. :D

Yes, they are. Both courtesy of Van. They are 5 Zeigen 2" lowering springs. 18x8 in the front, 18x9 in the rear. It you want to be safe as far as clearance goes, go with an 18x7 or so. You won't have to mess with anything.
