I just purchsed this rim and I was wondering if 24.7 pounds is consider heavy for an 18inch rim on an XB?

in relativity to other wheels..NO. but thats alot for your little xB to push. the 17inch rims im getting are 15lbs...the 18inch version is only 16lbs...so in relativity to those wheels they are really heavy

Check out Tire Rack and the rims there are usually listed with their weights - the higher the price the lower the weight the better the wheel with stay on the bumpy road. Also check out the tire weights and add the two together. The stock 15" rims and tires on the xB are pretty light but darn if I didn't forget to weight them when I had them off.

Stock steelies and tires weigh in at about 37 lbs. You want to try and stay as close to that weight as possible if you can.

Try to get them lighter than stock and the handling will improve - friend races a minicooper and has some really light rims and tires and says they really make a difference. The lighter the wheel the fast it can return back in contact with the ground after a bump.

Add a (probably) 23 lb tire and you're a good ten lbs heavier than stock per wheel which- depending on what formula you use- is like adding 320 lbs to the overall weight of your car.

I would estimate closer to 400lbs of overall weight.

The most significant thing you can do to get better gas mileage, and faster performance, is to reduceunsprung weight.

The typically accepted norm is that every pound of rotating mass you add or remove adds or removes 10 lbs of "dead" regular weight.

So, as rim_doc pointed out... going with really heavy weighted wheels, adding 40lbs of rotating mass is like sticking a 400lb lead brick in your trunk.

Not good on a car that already goes from 0-60 in 3 weeks.

So then....if we run some lawn mower tires we should have just about 0 pounds and killer performance....lol
