Default Help figuring out proper backspacing!

Hey guys I'm kind of a novice when looking for wheels so I need a hand. For what seems like forever I have been looking looking for some smoothie rims for my xB as the moon hubcaps just aren't working out. I finally found a place that may be able to custom make them for me. Here is a link to the item here: http://www.newstalgiawheel.com/produ...ils.asp?id=796

The problem is in order for them to be able to let me know if they can make these to fit my car I need to know the proper backspacing for the wheel. I've done some research here in the technical section as well as elsewhere on the net and I'm still a little confused. The size I am interested in is 16x7. I think I've figured out that the backspacing on my stock steelie is 4.5 inches, but would this apply to a larger wider rim as well? Obviously staying clear of brake and suspension parts is important.

If anyone has a better understanding of how this all work I would appreciate the help!
