I got my wheels and tires today and after I installed them there was a vibration noticed above 65mph. I supposedly had the wheels balanced and everything before they shipped. The company mentioned Hub centric rings from justforwheels.com? Does this make since? Should I purchase these to fix the problem or try and get the wheels balanced again now that there on the vehicle? Help! I need some please! :?

 

sounds like they are out of balance.. i assume you got them in the mail because you installed them yourself but I would call the place you bought them if they are out of balance and ask for the refund on whatever they charged you if anything to mount balance them..

 

did you get hub rings? that could be your problem if they arent in there, either that or they are not balanced correctly...hub rings are cheap if you don thave them, like $10 i think

Take one of your wheels off and measure the centerbore (hole in the center of the wheel). If it isn't 54mm, then you'll need some center rings.

 

Just ask the manufacturer if they're necessary, if they are, the manufacturer will usually sell them to you, or refer you to a dealer who will. Tenzo R Wheels, for instance, doesn't include the rings, but they are needed for proper installation.

 

i had the same prob, bought hub rings....no difference, so who knows

 

I don't want to beat you up too bad as you are a member of the same club but--take them back to were you bought them and tell them about your problem, they will fix it. Of, course you can't do that if you bought them in hyper-space. (internet)

10 bucks for rings?

My "Just for wheels" hub rings were more like 50 bucks after shipping...

What a PITA.

Haven't taken my new wheels over 65 yet ,but i'm getting the rings cause it's the thing to do.

Hub rings do help and how were they balanced. I have weights on the outside and inside of backside of wheel, With rings and good balance no vibration.

 

hub centric rings cost around 3 to 5 bucks each.

 

The center bore on the xB is 54.1 mm. Find out the center bore on your wheels and that will define the hubcentric ring that you need. My Maglites have a center bore of 73.1 so I ordered 54.1 to 73.1 HCRs. I ordered mine thru the local Goodyear dealer and they cost less than $20 total. I was surprised that they weren't familiar with HCRs, but he found someone that was.

Well, we got a bag of them here, you're welcome to come by and see if one fits.
No, I need 54.1 by 73.1.
Well, they don't have any sizes on them but your welcome to come look in the bag and see if one will fit.

Yeah, that was me. :D It wasn't a big prob, just took a couple calls. It was a good lesson for me. It almost sounds like I know what I'm talking about now, eh... It's amazing what a few weeks and a beautiful set of rims can teach you.

 

i can understand that, im thinking of replacing the 2 month old maglites with some new 20 x 7.5s, im still not sure though, i guess ill have to test fit them before i really decide if i like the look or not

Seems pricey, call your local good year dealer and see if they can get them. Does that price include shipping? Also, are they metal or plastic?

 

For anyone out there that needs rings still, Discount Tire Direct sells nice aluminum ones through their E-bay store for about $10-$12 a set. All you gotta do is tell them what size you need for your car and wheel or they can help you figure it out. Got mine delivered from them in a few days.

 

thats a good price the ones i have in the 10 buck range are plastic, i mean it really doesnt matter i thought it might but we run plastic rings on our track cars and our new drift project and i havent seen a melted one yet, although the ones we have are a good plastic i have seen some that melt under high brake temp

Discount Tires Direct was very good to us. They charged $15 (including shipping) for our hubcentric rings. Later when we discovered they were the wrong size (the eBay seller had given us the wrong specificatios) Discount Tires sent us the correct size without an additional charge. However the correct size (72.6 x 54.1) is normally only stocked at their actual stores and not at the warehouse which services their web orders. So by pure coincidence, the warehouse had a returned set of HCR which they were happy to get off their hands.
