I like it. I'm a sucker for bippu, and I'll leave it at that.
Taste does not factor into my opinion. I am a mechanic by profession and the first rule I go by, just like a doctor, is "do no harm". This is mechanical sabotage to a perfectly good car and you can clearly see the results. What do you think happens to the emergency handling properties of the car when the suspension is in this state? "Cool" is for kids if you ask me. Just an opinion...............

I agree with you 100% cause I'm a mechanic myself. I just don't get it either why this is sooo cool...why??? Oh wait, I know why...cause this is the way it's done in Japan so I'll go ahead and get the cool look but I'll have to replace the tires every year cause, "Hey, it looks cool!"

You sure are! How about instead of blindly copying someones elses style, you come up with one of your own and then maybe the mechanically-challenged guys in Japan might be copying YOU.

You think the owners of any of these cars cares about mechanics. Everyone of these cars is cool and well thought out in it's own right. There is nothing to bash on these cars or on me. These cars are built on form, not function. The hate on this forum makes me sick. I hope everyone that continues to argue this feels better about themselves. Cuz I know that wouldn't happen in person...Of course, that's why I prolly won't participate much here anymore. Too childish...

I think those cars look cartoon-silly and probably drive worse. If you like them then more power to ya! And if you wanna take all your marbles and go home, that's fine too.....

Sorry to see another contributor on this site say they are going to back away.

But, I just don't agree with the camber thing on our cars. Jim, I am sure some of those vehicle you had pictures of have independent rear suspensions. If you work with an IRS enough you can get the camber you desire when dropped and still get a decent alignment at ride height. Just like what most (non-strut) cars have to do on the front suspension.

As you are well aware this isn't the case with the xB. Negative camber at full drop is negative camber at ride height. And despite what so many on this site have tried to say about negative camber not attributing to tire wear, you proved them wrong. Negative camber can and WILL cause excessive tire wear. It isn't just toe. Yes, toe will increase the problem exponentially, but camber alone will do it.

And I am not trying to take sides here. Personally, I don't agree with the "VIP" cambered look. There are some aspects of VIP style cars I like, others I don't. The (excessive) camber thing happens to be one of them. Personally, if you are going to spend that much money on a car, there are better ways to run those crazy deep wheels without having to lose function. Sure it costs more, but it looks (opinion) and functions better. And really, a narrowed rear suspension and mini-tubs are not that hard, or that expensive when you look at the total cost of a car build.

Well camber IMO is bad ___!! Daily drive with -3 in the front and -4 in the rear. I could care less about tires. Don't mind them JDMJIM.

Why do people feel the need to preach!? It doesn't take a mechanic to figure out negative camber wears tires out faster. So you're not really adding anything to discussion by repeating the obvious. Some people are willing to put up with it for the look. Period.

I guess there are certain topics you shouldn't bring up at the dinner table: politics, religion, and camber...

I used to think negative camber is dumb... but guess what, I now have negative camber on my car. To me, it's just a style, and I am willing to sacrifice the tire wear for it. Just like any other style or trend, some people will like it, and some will hate it.

Jim, thanks for sharing the pics, I appreciate it.

All I like to do is educate and understand the and help those that don't understand. But the hate that keeps flowing back to me for it is not worth it.

Metro and Scotty are prolly the type of Mechanics that take their cars to a shop to see someone else work on it...they seem to closed minded to even drive their own cars.....

Don't go all emo on us! My point is there are many "styles" out there, some are just ridiculous in the mechanical sense. Does your car handle well with that camber? Would you bet your life on it? Someday you may get your chance. I agree with the above poster about doing the job properly if that's what you set out to do. "Camber" is just an extremely ghetto way to fit wheels on a car that have no business being on that car. Who cares if the Japenese do ghetto work. Why are you so enamored with what goes on in Japan? If some Japenese guy wore a pink tu-tu while driving his ghetto-fabbed "VIP" machine, would you be out looking for a pink tu-tu the next day, blowing up the forums about how cool pink tu-tus are and crap like that? Maybe when you get a little older you will understand what I'm talking about.....

My buddy has a BMW M3 and just wore out a set of tires on the rear with negative camber - the outside was worn down a lot, the the inside tread was showing cord. It was properly aligned . . .

So let's see....... I'm 42 (43 next week) and you're 22, so let's just say I got about 20 years on you. What have you learned in the last 20 years? What do you think you might possibly learn in the next 20? Let's imagine you are talking to a 5 year old and he is telling you how cool the Teletubbies and Barney are and "you're just too dumb to understand". Can you imagine what would be going through your mind? THATS what I'M thinking right now talking to YOU! But of course you are a "way too wise for your years" 22 year old who has the tiger by the tail and is the consummate expert on what's "cool" or not, and I'm just some senile old fart with no sense. But as far as mechanicical aptitude, I happen to be a Master Diagnostic Technician for Toyota as well as an A&P mechanic with more experience wrenching than you have with breathing, so your comments to the contrary show your grasp of the subject at hand. But don't listen to me, just keep on keepin' on seeing as how you are such the expert on "cool"
