I had a set of 4 nankang 205/40/17 about a year ago. I drove on those tires for about 6 months before i sold them along with my wheels. The ride was pretty harsh but the tread barely wore at all. I must have drove 15,000+ miles during that span and it appeared like it retained roughly 70-75% of its original tread.

BTW i had those tires on my lowered 2002 Civic Si and my scion xB at stock height during the time i owned them.

I've got Nankangs. Only have about 500 miles on them......but they seem like good tires........and they're cheap. That's nice.

those tires are a joke.
they're the cheapest tires for "performance" sized rims
on the market.
whenever u see rims bundled with tires.
and they fail to tell u what tires u're getting..
and the deal is dirt cheap..
9/10 times it'll be nangkang or hankooook lol
those are just horrible.. remember. rims make ur car look good
but tires make ur car GRIP good. hit a puddle and spinning out
IS(VERY VERY) worth an extra 25-30 bucks per tire.
tires are the foundation of ur car. even if ur car doesn't start..
it still needs tires..

...to the last two posters, i have a question for you: Did you have an experience of owning or driving a car with these set of tires?

If not, then your opinions are based on...your perceptions only and not something like experience (which would have real value to this thread)

I've owned a set of Nankangs and have driven 15,000 miles on them, didn't seem to have a problem with me at all...hell i would even stand behind them with confidence.

(oh btw, hope i don't seem like i'm calling anybody out, my apologies if i come across a bit too harsh)

yes i do actually have experience with them. Like joey said, they are crap for tires. Yes they are cheap, but you get what you pay for. I am in the auto parts retail business and i use to sell tires. I did sell nankang at one point. I never really pushed them, but i would have some customers that didnt want to pay squat for tires, so thats what they bought. Of all the customers that bought those tires, 80% of them werent happy and sold them off shortly after, or the tire would pop or do something dumb. I've ridden and driven in cars w/ nankang tires, and i must say they are as far from great as you can get. If nankangs float your boat, go ahead and get them, but with quality and price as a compromise of the 2, id say falken prolly is as midway as you get. If you really want to see a difference get a set of nice tires drive on them, then throw on a set of nankangs or vice versa. Its worlds apart. Also, the rubber compound used on nankangs is low grade to the point of they use the compound of regular passenger car tires (which is a hard compound), which makes the crazy tread patterns they make virtually useless. Do a real burn out on nanakangs and blocks of tread will fall off. I'm not saying attempt to do it in a scion cause thats not enuff power, but in a car with some *****. Youll see what i mean. My friends car w/ nankangs broke off chunks of tread within a short amount of time doing burnouts. needless to say that was the first and last set of those tires he ever bought

Adam, you your at discount tire right? They have a great warranty. I personally know a lt of guys with these tires. They have sold there cars ot the rims an tire bfore any ill effect happened to the tires. Thay had some road roar, but they lasted forever. Bill
By the way I have continentals z rated on mine. pd $8.00 extra liked the look better.

I had these tires on my 15" Rota wheels on my Civic. They were junk. They were harder than rock, but the wet traction was horrible. I would also recommend spending an extra $30 or so to get a better set; Kumho, Cooper, and other make a much better budget tire.

MY IMPRESSION WITH NANKANG:

My Nankang is going on 21,xxx miles on my xB. I've taking it to Seattle with Sleet, Snow and Rain and I didn't have a problem. I've driven it to Vegas on a scorching 115 degree weather and it performed just fine.

I've taken my xB to 110MPH for 5 minutes and it seems okay to me. I've burned rubber on these tires and I didn't see any chunks of it coming off.

I bought these tires because they are the most affordable ones. I'm not planning on autocrossing or doing some canyon carving nor Enter it in a show The sole purpose of my ride is to get around town and to get me from point A to point B.

Do I need to Get a High Performance Tires like Goodyear Eagle F1 Fiorano for $300 a piece for my xB?... Hell No... because of the type of daily driving I do.

The point I'm trying to make here is Nankang is not a bad tire for the price and I'm talking from my ongoing experience. When purchasing a set of tires, just consider the type of daily driving you're doing plus the weather condition where you live.

just cuz i can do it doesn't mean its necessarily safe.

good: tires are cheap
bad: tires suck, don't perform, aren't name brand, chunks fall off(not grains), wouldn't recommend it.

you can read clearly theres about 2-3 "positive" reviews(rating 7-8/10)
and about 6 negatives(rating 1-4/10)
even the GOOD reviews didn't give them 9's or 10's

on a final note, i just wanted to make sure he doesn't own himself.

I have nankangs on my xb. 215/35R18. Cheap? Yes. Performance race tire? No. Bang for the buck? Hell yes. Have I had any problems? No.

To be honest, my xB with Spy springs, Hotchkis strut tower bar, JIC 4-point underbrace and 18" nankang tires grips the WET road (not the same for dry) better than my Integra with AGX Gas adjustable struts, GroundControl coilovers springs, front/rear strut tower bars, rear lower tie bar, and 17" Falken GR-Beta Z-rated tires.

And the nankangs are at least $40 cheaper than the Falkens. The xB is not a race car (at least not for most of us) so I suggest a good priced decent tire like the Nankang to anyone.

I've pulled some maneuvers in greasy watter puddles with traction control off to see the grip of these tires. They worked just fine. No slipping. I've got 90 wheel hp for Christ's sake. What kinda "performance" tire do I need? But hey.......when these tires kill me........I'll let you know.

Common guys, settle down...

Nankangs are horrible tires to buy if you are looking for safety and performance. These tires are just to get around in. The heatrange of these tires are very poor and that is the cause of the "chunking" effect when you do a burn-out.

My opinion, don't get these tires if your ever worried about sudden braking in wet or dry conditions. If you want to be able to feel your car's performance, don't get these tires. But if you don't care about the few things above, they're the most affordable tires you can get.

i had my wheels and (Nankang) tires put on 4 days after i got the xB. i don't know anything else on the car. i have 19K on those tires and (to date) have never had any problems...and believe me...i have hit my share off potholes. we've got heavy rain and wind in the central valley and the tires held up fine. i was more worried about getting my chromes scratched, than the tires. my bottomline is if you plan to drive normally in your box (no racing, burnouts, autox, or any other of the etremes) you shouldnt have any problems.

i would buy them again.
