Default rim dilemma

Ok here is the deal I want to put some 17" rims on my Xb. I have the money and some rims picked out. Whats holding me back is I have 4 perfectly good tires on my car at the moment and I would have to purchase new tires for the bigger rims. Does anyone have any idea how I could store these tires so they could be used agian later down the road?$600-1000 is a lot to spend on vanity. Anyone have a suggestion on what I should do?

I am thinking of getting either gunmetal or gloss black w/ polished lip.

I bagged my stockers and put them in the garage just in case I ever get ride of my ride (which I wont). Check out my link below to see my rims, it will give you an idea what the RS2 looks like with 17's.

good idea^^^
just keep them inflated and a good rubber protectant on them to prevent dry rot if they sit a long time

I wouldn't worry about it. If you want rims, just forget about the factory stuff. Once you change you'll probably never go back unless you put the factory rims on to trade it in. They were part of the purchase price of the car so it's easy to forget. If you want to keep them around keep them in a cool dry place, and they should last a while. Some tires have a longer shelf life than others.

The seller selling those rims on ebay is for real. His prices are ridiculously low (sometimes $1.00 buy it now for example) and it is not a scam. Sure you pay $300 for shipping but it is still alot cheaper than other places I have checked. I wish I would have known about him before I bought my rims.

joemamasmurf, if you are concerned about the money issues, buy the rims from the ebay link above, put on your stock tires, drop it 2" with either the Gold-Lines or the Tanabes and you're set. When your stock tires wear out, then you can change your tire size, just an idea for you to toss around...

I have 15x6.5 with 40mm offset enkei on my car. I was told stock tires will fit up to 15x7 rims. I have enkei j10's I got from Discount tire, mine match my TCM but they make blacks ones also. They have polished lip with chrome cap with CF inlay. Look in my profile for pics if you like. Rota has some nice 15" wheels I was looking at also.

Just my prefference but the black wheels with polished lip look best on the RS2

FYI,

Since heat and exposure to the elements are the primary factors that influence a tire's aging process, drivers can prolong their tire's life by minimizing their impact. Here are some tips for storing tires that will not be used continuously.
• Don't store a vehicle with weight on its tires for extended periods of time. Long-term inactivity is more harmful to tires than short weekly drives that flex the tires and help maintain oil dispersion within the rubber compounds.
• DO NOT APPLY ANY TIRE DRESSINGS. Tire compounds are formulated to resist ozone cracking or weather checking.
• Keep the tires out of direct sunlight. The sun’s ultraviolet rays and radiant heat are detrimental to rubber. We have used a pyrometer to measure tires that were simply sitting in direct sunlight on a parked vehicle. Surprisingly those tires’ temperatures were 135° Fahrenheit on their surface.
• Place each tire in its own large, opaque, airtight plastic bag (such as lawn and garden bags) for storing. Avoid allowing any moisture and remove as much air as practical (some drivers even use a vacuum cleaner to draw out as much as possible). Close the bag tightly and tape it shut. This places the tire in its own personal mini-atmosphere to help reduce oil evaporation.
• Place the tires in a cool, dry location. It is better to place tires in a dry basement than outdoors or in a hot garage or attic. The basement temperatures will tend to remain cooler and more stable, while outdoor, garage and attic temperatures will often become hot and face daily fluctuations in temperature.
• Keep the tires away from sources of ozone. Electric motors that use contact brushes generate ozone. Keep your tires away from the furnace, sump pump, etc.

While tires will age somewhat regardless of what precautions are taken, these procedures will help slow the process compared to not doing anything.

Others here on SL have purchased from this seller and have paid what you have. I checked on the ebay link again and went to his "store". He has numerous rims, inluding several "buy it now" listed. For approx $350-$400 you can buy almost any rim he has, including some sweet 18". For example, here is another link that has a sweet "buy it now" price for 18" rims and shipping is like $138.00 making the total less than $350.00. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=43958 Whether you pay $1 for the rims and $300+ for shipping, or $199 for the rims and $138 for shipping it all comes out the same. Great rims for great prices, and looks like he has been selling on ebay for quite some time.
