that's not my ride. it's signalxB's from a while ago. I'm not sure what the stats are on that set up. but, you can see his tire size and those _____in' JLines.

plus you can see a good example of a stance that's hard to beat - height, flushness, perfect wheels for the overall look. it all works really well. about the only thing missing is some camber - but that might not have been his bag.

Not to be too harsh, but ride quality is subjective, and is influenced strongly by other perceptions about the car. Enthusiasts will put up with a lot of negatives if it "looks good"...

In many respects, it's a form of Denial.

Ericcooper and psrest2 can't get past the real negatives, no matter how good it looks...

Which is reality, like it or not.

With that in mind, I'd suggest that the real answer is in smaller rims- how much smaller is an issue of compromising looks and comfort/ practicality.

Perhaps the first thing to consider is that the xB comes to us with undersize tires, a concession to the Japanese perception of the American market. bB's run 185/65/R15's stock, and our manuals make reference to that size, as well as 185/60/15. They'll also correct up the built-in speedometer error.

Start with a tire size calculator, like this one-

http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireMath.dos

Play with it a little bit, and you'll quickly realize that 18" rims and 40 series 215 tires are about as big as you can go w/o serious issues- which won't improve ride enough to matter.

Only by becoming more conservative with both rim and tire width and rim diameter can you increase sidewall height substantially, which is really what's required...

Using 17x7" rims with a 40 offset and 195/50R/17 or 215/45/17 tires will correct the speedometer and increase sidewall height by almost 1" over the 215/35/R18's that Ericcooper is currently using, while virtually eliminating any chance of rubbing, ever... easily leaving room to use the OTG spacers in the rear, if he wants...

That's the math, mixed with one guy's opinion...

Suffering for the sake of style isn't my idea of a good ride... I run 15x6.5 40 offset rims and the stock tires, for that reason, and because I'm cheap. I really don't like the LS Goodyears, however, and plan on a set of 195/60/R15 Falken Ziex 512's in the near future...

Thanks for the useful info.....I think I'm gonna run with the 215/40/18 and see if that will work. It will be a little taller, but I don't think it's tall enough to cause problems. And if I have to do a little modding to get them to work, it will be well worth it.

I accidentaly ordered the worng size tire for my wheels ( 225/40/18 ) online and from what I understand this is huge for a box...especially lowered. I'm gonna go ahead and mount them on my wheels anyways once they arrive and post results. The wheel well plastics will definately have to come out. I'm lowered on s.techs btw.

225/40 is way too huge.

you don't want to get rid of the wheel well plastics. pain in the butt to keep clean afterwards. and if you have an intake? oh my.

Default My 2cents

I have the worst and best of both worlds. I run 215/40-18 in the rear and 215/35-18 in the front the only problem that this setup has is the MPG what the trip read 267 -274 I better be pulling into a sation because that all I'm going to get MPG wise with this setup. I've pasted the idea aroung to change the rear set to 35s but see I pull a 5x8 trailer plus the car in drop and the receiver is a 8-in one facing up. The roads are fine in florida but the driveways are the killers; meaning the hitch hits went leaving out of a driveway. By the way to you guys running the 215/35-18s all around what is your avg MPG, it has to be better, right

the 215/40's in the back shouldn't hurt mileage at all. it'd hurt if that size was up front , more rotational weight

when I was running 215/35/18's all around (2" drop/ no sub in the back/ no trailer/ just me in the car/ half HWY and half local road driving) I averaged 30 MPG.

BTW, I'm just a hair under that now w/ my new setup.

hotbox05, from what I've lean here from this post the fact that the back is a 40series tire the speedometer difference is 4.334% difference and the back has a slower revs per mile:@839.7 while the front which has a 35series tires has a speedometer difference of 0.759% and a Per mile Rev of 869.5,,,,the tire's rev per mile was 876.1 and puttin a 40R17 tire in all 4 corners would give speedometer difference of 0.125% and a revs per mile of 875......Plus with the price of gas these days I would like to start seeing the trip go closer to 310mile per tank.lolololol

wait what ? you're m,ixing up 17 and 18 inch sizes now. ya lost me. the 215/40 is larger aka wrong , nmmore miles traveled than on your speedo yes but? the prob is they weigh more meaning the motor has to work if even ever so slightly harder to get the wheels moving.

as well as more wear on brakes and slower accelleration.

I don't plan on mix 17 with 18 I was thinking about changing out the Rims altogether for 17 in rims, but now maybe I'll just change the rear tire profile to match the fronts. Making it 215/35R-18 all around.
