Default Stock 15" wheel weight

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know how much the stock 15 inch steelies weigh. Also, how much would the average 17" aluminum/alloy wheel weigh?

Trying to figure out how much weight I can pull out.

Thanks

17" wheels vary from 13lbs in upwards to high 20's

www.wheelspecs.com is a good resource that has wheel weights but you shouldn't group all 17's in one category...

keep in mind that forged wheels will be lighter/stronger/ and higher priced

vs

ebay 17's where it will be the opposite.

Or 15" steelies are approx. 19 pounds each.

ALSO.. keep in mind, the bigger the size of tire/wheel you go to- the tires themselves get increasingly heavier(ie. 15" = 18lbs , 16" = 21 lbs .... etc, etc.). ALSO-also... keep in mind that the most crucial wheel weight(most important) is the outer-most part of the wheel (ie. the TIRE)!!!!!

Personally, IMHO.. a nice 15 or 16" wheel looks darn nice on a xB or xA. Going to a 17-18" wheel looks like way overkill , and makes the wheels look very disproportionate to the size of our vehicles. A tC looks good w/ 17"... and helps keep the weight down vs. going to a 18".

There are great deals on 16" wheels around.. from quality makers( 1 or 2 piece cast) , and a 16" tire is very-very similarly priced as 15" tires. I'd recommend either going w/ a superlight forged 15" wheel( SSR type-C @ $300 ea. = they only weight 8.5 lbs!!!) w/ a 195/55/ 15" tire on there. Or possibly going with a 16" wheel w/ like a 195/50/16" or 205/50/16"(less mpg this way.. but better grip).

Discount-tire direct is having an instant $100 savings on any 4 tires you want right now till Saturday... + free shipping !!!

welcome!

Also, keep in mind.. the stock tires on our xA's (185-60-15), when I had those things on .. I'd get blown all around the hwy/freeway @ 55-65 mph .... very frusterating/ unsafe if you ask me. Once I went to my wheel set up w/ 205-50-16" .... I'm good to go, stuck like glue even w/ heavey winds. Even going to a 195 wide tire should provide alot of positive feedback while driving... its the best upgrade you can do to your vehicle , hands down.

Default Who is this? What's your operating number?

16's with 190 sound reasonable, maybe I'll look into that

Yeah... probably a 195-50(or 55)-16" would be good. There isn't too much of a selection when you looking at that sizing. Where there are alot of choices, is when you looking @ 205-50-16"
