TIRE/WHEELS QUESTION!PLEASE HELP!!
anyway, I'm interested in getting some new tires. Right now I'm running on stock tires/wheels, and well the tires just arent doing it for me right now so I'm thi9nking about getting some new ones to fulfill my need to touge. So I've been looking at Falken, specifically the Azenis Sport, the measurment is 205/50/15 or 205/55/15. I dont know much about tries so forgive the noob question, but are these good tire numbers that will give me good grip, accel, braking, etc? and will they fit on the stock wheels? what are the measuments of the stock wheels? I know that its 15(duh) but is it 15x6.5 or 7? but back on track let say that for now I just want to get new tires, will either of my above selections fit the stock wheel? now lets say that its 15x6.5 and I'm running on the tries for awhile and I magically conjure up money for some wheels that are 15x7, would I have to get new tires? So yeah help is much appreciated, I don't know much about tires/wheels. I guess in general what would be some good wheel/tire measurments for a person who like to carve mountain roads?
Realistically, almost any tire in a 205/50 or 205/55 will handle better than the stock OE tires. You might lose a little performance in acceleration as the 205's will weigh more than the stock tires and put down a wider footprint. Technically speaking, the wider tires would be less aerodynamic, cause more drag, and lower your overall gas mileage (all other things being equal). You'll probably get some tire bulge as the stock rims are only 6" wide.
The 205's would sit much better on a 7" wide wheel and would look more "square" in the shoulders rather than have the tire bulge appearance. You can dismount these tires from the stock rims and have them remounted on your newer wheels when the time comes.
My personal choice would be the 205/55-15 to retain good ride characteristics while sacrifing a very minimal degradation in handling compared to the 205/50's (I'm probably just getting older and really hate harsh riding set ups). The 205/50's will be a little shorter than the stock set up (shorter sidewalls, smaller diameter tire, higher RPMs vs the stock tire), but turn in will feel more crisp/responsive.
It's a matter of personal preference. For all out performance, you'd probably be better off with the 50 series tires.
Hope this helps,
Andre
