Default will wider tires void my warranty?

My Wifes xa is in serious need of new tires. I want to go wider but keep the same ride height. Will wider tires void my warranty? I was thinking of going with 205

The ONLY time any PART of a warranty is affected is if what you have done directly caused a failure to happen.

That's the quick answer. There is a lot more. Search.

205's are a touch lower than the stock tires. But, you won't have any problems with warranty work.

It depends on the size he goes with. A 205/55 is a little shorter, but a 205/60 is a bit taller. Both are well within the recommeded +/- 3% difference verses the stock rolling diameter. Personally, if I were going with a 205, I would go with the 205/60.

Yes, if it is a choice between 3% shorter and 3% taller, I'd definately go with the taller unless they for some reason just plain won't fit.

Here's some detail on warranty stuff I didn't have time to look up before:

The Yoko AVIDS are in the top three for street tires IMHO.

Quite seriously, there is no one "BEST" tire.

ALL tires are compromise designs, and it depends on what is most important to you at this particular moment which of your many choices might be best.

On a rainy day tire "A" might suck, even though on a dry day it beats all the others.

Tire "B" may have ten times the tread wear of the others, but might make most roads feel like they've been greased.

Tire "C" might be fantastic is snow, but self destruct driving to Barstow in the summer.

There is NO best tire, only tires that are better than others at specific jobs. It depends on what is important to YOU that the tires do.

Even then, that can change by the hour.

Look at races - the slightest bit of rain and all the cars come in to change tires. Their hyper-expensive, purpose designed, "best tire for the job" is suddenly no longer "best."

Here's a typical rating list (lifted from Tirerack) showing the stock tires on my xB and the tires I chose to replace them. (Details in my profile.)

Note that while the tires I chose are at the top of the list, they are NOT best in all things. (Also notice that the OEM tires are NOT best in ANY factor...)

Decide what is important to YOU and make a choice.

Tomas
