Default Anyone Else Using A Front End Mask?

Just added a front end mask, after finding my first chip on the front of the hood. It looks good and hopefully will prevent some damage. However you have to be very careful using this product. the backside is lined with a soft white material which has to stay clean and dry. If it rains, you are supposed to remove the mask before it drys out, which supposedly causes paint fade. The mask goes on and off in less than a minute so it's no big deal to me, other than I have to remember to remove it after a rainy day.
Anyone else using one of these? If not what product are you using for bug and stone deflection?
Thanks,
Matt

I'm in the Northeast. My Colgan stays on the car from November to April. Snow, sleet, freezing rain and slush. This is my second winter with the Colgan. The whole thing is backed with very soft, very thick felt. When I took it off a couple of weeks ago, there was absolutly NO damage! NONE! I just turned 25K on my xB and the nose of the car looks new. Colgan Custom Bras are only available here;

I'm using one as well...I travel alot for my job and its all highway...same as you, as soon as I noticed the first paint chip I put one on.

To be honest though...I've left it on through rain showers and have not taken it off since. I know it said to remove it, but laziness, too busy - whatever you want to call it - I can't be bothered...I'm leaving it on so if the paint does get faded underneath, no biggie - my brother-in-law works for Toyota and can get me discounts on whatever I may need...but like I said, it's staying on...I got it for a reason.

It's never too late till after your paint is trashed by a cheap bra. Just return it and order the Colgan. You'll thank me later. I don't go on long trips without mine. I just wish I had gotten it sooner.

Hi Jethro,

I'm my final analysis of the Toyota xB mask, it is of good quality. I find it easy to take off and put back on, when it gets exposed to a hard rain. On Saturday it rained pretty hard, so when I got home I took it off the xB and hung it up in my garage..it was nice and dry the next morning. It works fine for me.

Yes, I understand if you have the Scion hood bra. The Colgan covers the whole front end (Hood, front bumper and mirrors) if you want. I was under the impression you bought a full bra like the cheap LeBra or other knockoff that damages paint rather than protecting it.

You'll find that as you add miles, your front bumper will get much chips from fine rock pieces. I waited almost a year to get mine and still regret waiting.

I hear you Jethro. You are right about the bumper and the below that. I am able to fill and touch up the rubber and plastic easier then the slightly rounded front of the hood.
The chips show up on the lighter colors too.
I can't get too fanatical about it. I bought it to drive and to have a place to store my road set of drums. It's working out well. I used to use a longbed 6 cyl. Sonoma with a cap on it and fully loaded, could not get over 20MPG.

We will sooner or later. I know that there's going to be a Nashville area club and meets and stuff. I will probably join, even though I don't do any major mods. I still enjoy seeing what others do with their rides.

Sorry it's taken me so long to respond Matt. I just saw your post today. I grew up (questionable) in East Hartford. Have lived in Manchester, Rocky Hill, Wethersfield, Vernon and currently live in Windham. I'll probably be relocating to the Meriden/Southington area in a year or two.

Yup, that's my old stompin grounds. Back in the late seventies and early eighties we used to meet at the Silver Lane Diner after the bars closed. I last lived in Tolland, left early '87. I miss home a lot. Is Lynch still the Toyota dealer up there?

Not only is Lynch still here, it's where I bought my Scion. Unfortunatly, The Silver Lane Diner is looooong gone. I was a regular there after 2:00AM most weekends. John (the owner) and I, were friends. A great place to "Shake Of The Demon". Felt like home. Earlier in my short lived party career, I could be found sometimes at the Triple A Diner in East Hartford or the Makris Diner on the Berlin Turnpike. Nothing like greasy Greek Diner food to sober you up!

Clear bras are ten times better than a Colgan or any other leather/plastic bra

Your right it is my opinion and the opinion of most when u look at the pros and cons

Colgan -
You can see a mile away
Longetivity is less than 3 years
Need to remove bra all the time so your paint doesnt crack or get scratched
Cheaper and more affordable
Shine and look does not last
Prevents rock chips

Clear bra
Cant see it even sometimes as close as a foot away
Clear coat finish can be washed and waxed just like your car
Will last as long as you take care of it
Prevents rock chips
Covered under insurance if in an accident

Those are just some points
