I have seen special "high wattage" turn signal bulbs and would recommend them to anybody who does this mod. . . and since they really aren't that bright to begin with, something around 40-50 watts shouldn't be dangerous to the wires, since it isn't a light that stays on, like the headlights, it should be fine without upgrading the wires. . . although the fuse may have to be swapped for a higher rated fuse.
It would help for the sake of being "legal" and would look pretty damn sweet!

. As far as full smoke headlights, the housing is already black. I would suggest getting my Headlight Lid and Sidemarker Overlay to get that subdued look. I'm hoping someone on this forum will post pics of that combo soon

Thanks.
Just to preface this post, Bat's overlays are awesome so I am in no way hating on his wonderful work. Just trying to clarify the laws of my new state California.
I'm hoping to get Bat's smoke overlays for my tail lights but I was trying to make sure it is legal to tint the tails in California. Anyone have insight into this?
I found some info here:
http://www.chp.ca.gov/html/streetlegal.html
The following is listed as illegal on the CHP site:
"Lack of rear reflectors. Two red reflectors are required on the rear of cars and trucks (24607 VC)."
"Tail lights that are too dim, washed out or show yellow, white or other colors (24600 VC)."
I love the look of my other overlays from Bat so I want the newest ones when he makes them but I can't afford to be worrying about a ticket.
Thoughts from anyone? I hope they are legal!

Those laws are regarding reflectors and lights. . . if the overlays are transparent, then they would definitely be legal, but from the pics they look like flat black vinyl. I think they would be legal. . . but you may get a hard time if the lights become so thin/small/dim that they are not clearly visible.
Again, I think with a brighter signal bulb, you should be a-ok with the law.

So after thinking about it and reading the laws again I think the taillight lid overlays would be ok since there is still red for the brake lights showing at all times. Now what about smoking out the entire tail light assembly?
Bat, you have tons of great looking overlays on your site so I am sure many people in Cali have them. Have you heard of anyone running into problems with the law over them?
Again, they look great so I am going to get them but I want to err on the side of caution or at least be aware.

It's illegal to tint your front windows in Ca. Yet, alot of people do it. The great thing about the Vinyl I use is that the reflectors are still visible from quite a distant. You look at alot of cars nowadays where tinted tails are stock! I persponally have never had any problems, and I know of only one person in the 3 years I've been doing this, that was pulled over for it.

Thanks for alleviating my fears Bat! Can't wait for the full taillight smoked overlays now. Tint away!
Finally got my digital camera up and running so I'll post some pictures of how the other overlays look.
Thanks again for the great overlays and service Bat.
