does anybody know if its okay to rebake the headlights to take them apart again? i already did the whole process and blacked them out. but.........i dont like the blacked out corner. i wanted to just get a replacement stock chrome one of those to put back into my already blacked out headlights. so im just wondering if theres enough silicone in there to bake open again to fix what i want to fix, then to rebake again to get them sealed? thanks!

 

^^i'm sure there is but i would buy some extra silicone just incase to make sure you have a good seal.

im not sure exactly what kind but im sure if u go to a local auto store and tell them what u need they will know whats best

 

ok, one more question. do any of you guys know if i would be able to get just the reflective part in the parking light section of the assembly from the dealership as a replacement. its just that "u" shaped reflector in the parking lights, minus the orange reflector that clips into it. I messed mines up and i just wanted to swap it out for a new one. thanks!

 

^^ I can sell you one of mine for like 10 bucks if u want it cause i took mine out and there fully in tact

 

actually, im not talking about the orange reflector part in the corners. im talking about the whole chrome corner unit itself. the part that you actually black out.

 

^^oh lol my bad i misread that than....hmm i think ur best bet would be to buy a used headlight for the side u need or call a junkyard because the dealer prolly wont sell it seperate from the headlight and if they do it will prolly cost u and arm and a leg....

Ebay has a few listings for used stock headlights for sale either left or right side or u can check the classifieds on here i know there is some guys selling headlights they might sell them individually....just try to avoid ordering from the "stealership" haha

 

^^i just got back from the dealership. they said they're unable to sell that part anyway. only the bulbs, that rubber part on the back or the whole assembly itself can be ordered. i'll see if i can find a cheap headlight or two. thanks for your help.

does anybody know how to get the paint off after it has dried without damaging the chrome reflectors?

 

^^not sure if that is even possible...i would say thinner would be the only way but that will rip the chrome paint off. The inside of the lights are painted with chrome paint and when doing this mod u are painting over that, if ur gonna take off the black ur most likley gonna either take off the chrome or scratch it.....your best bet is to just buy a set of new headlights. But thats my opinion....if neone else has an idea please speak up

 

Does this affect light output at all? I'm assuming not becuase it's the non reflective area being painted.

 

^^Nope it doesnt affect it at all because as you said the reflective parts arent being painted

 

i have a quick question..
im almost done painting the headlights, but after i'm done, instead of putting it back into the oven to make the silicon sticky, can i just use silicon that you can buy from a store? so you wouldn't have to pop it back into the oven?

i have some extra silicon in my garage.

 

Use the existing adhesive... the silicon that you buy is heat resistant, so if you ever need to take them apart again, you're gonna have a hard time reopening em.

niice. i finished them yesterday and DAMN do they look good.

taking the headlight apart seemed harder than it sounded. it looked like the previous owner added more adhesive or something. i just popped it back in the oven (safe procedure) for another 5 minutes.

and didn't do a perfect job masking, some of the paint either leaked through, or not enough of the headlight was painted.
you can only see the mistake up close.

so as for advise, make sure you mask it well.
