Default Bug Deflector Question

Hello, I just got an '06 xB and within the first day of owning it the windshield was PLASTERED with bugs. I'm not really a fan of bug deflectors, but I figured I could rig up a detachable one for when I'm driving through country roads (I live in Indiana, so there's no shortage of those).

Anyway, I was just curious as to whether or not it was actually worth the money or not. I don't want to buy it if it's just going to chill out of my grille and look stupid.

Thanks for the help!

Bug guard is going to prevent chipping on your hood as well as bugs on your windshield.

Get a clear one and you won't regret it.

As for the front of the car, you can get a full colgan bra, or do what I do, and wax it frequently, and the bugs will come off REALLY easy with little effort. (I use a squegee at the gas station)

i hated my bug deflector. It made SO much noise while on the highways, made the windshield washer fluid useless (hit everything but the windshield), and just really didn't do anything.

Thanks for the awesome replies, guys.

Archngl - Wouldn't a squeegee just be dragging the bug carcasses across your paint? I would think that would cause small scratches in the clear. Has it?

I put on a rediculous amount of wax fist off.
Secondly, I do it daily, so the bugs don't have the chance to get dried out, hard or baked on. I also wet the surface a little. Not just bare boned squeegee. So far no problems.

the full bra doesn't really change the wind's angle hitting the car, so I don't think there would be any more noise, unless it's loose and slaps against the body.

Plus bra's are HORRIBLE for paint. I'd rather have bugs than bra-damage.

Just as long as you use bra's temporarily for long trips and such, and don't keep it on 24/7, you should be fine.

Default .....Highly Recomennded....

The clear bug deflector installs into 4 pre-drilled holes in the underside of your hood. 4 Body fasteners can be easily removed on the fly. You will like it. And you can remove it quickly for a show. It is almost invisable from 10 feet away. LUND $65 AUTOPARTSWAREHOUSE.COM See it in photo below?

yup that's the one I had (well I still have it, it's sitting in my garage in a pile of parts).

Hated it.

Hey Alex6! Why did you hate that?
Are you looking at the right picture? You describe a bra, that needs to be removed after each rain.
This is a deflector that can remain on for the life of your car.

No wind noise of any kind with this deflector.

Wait until you see the gleem that gets transmitted from the headlights, parking lights and turn signals at night. It is like a lighted ornament. See photo:

See, I have more wind noise when it was on, and like I stated earlier, the windshield fluid was useless on the highway. Most of it flew over, or hit the cars next to me, more than my windshield.

Archngl: When I was taking it out, I pretty much destroyed the mounding screws which came with it, so I wouldn't want to sell it like that.

Default ....Fasteners are easy to get...

^^Include one of those broken fasteners so he can size up some new ones.^^

Those 'screws' are just common body fasteners that you can buy in any parts store. I dropped one into the engine and never found it. So, I went over to the auto store and bought 4 more for about $2.
I would grab that 'screw-less' deflector if I didn't already have one.

My windsheild washers work very well. Any speed under 60, and they work perfectlly. Over 60, no washer will work well.
I know this because there must be something about me that causes morons to get in front of me and 'wash' their windsheild.
This is a tottally wasted effert because the fluid goes onto my car instead.

I have the clear one also.
No noise from mine but the washer fluid does not work for me on the highways either.
Keeps about 75% of the bugs off mt window though.
