Default Colga bra - Paint finish

I'm about to order a Colgan bra but before I did I want to make sure it doesn't mar the paint or leave microfine scratches where it was. I do know not to use a bra when it's wet or raining, but I don't want to put a bra on that will scrach or mar my paint. . . . Is the entire backside of the Colgan safe enough that it would rub on any edges or anything?

Make sure it is totally clean when you put it on...the fabric and the paint...it also helps to have a fresh coat of wax. You might get a scratch on the bumper cover no matter what you do

It also flaps in the wind over the wheel arches. I am not completely satisfied with mine.

You won't change it every time it rains because it you do you'll have it off half the time.

I just did my first road trip fior a car show using my brand new colgan bra with no problems at all. Although I did see some warnings about the wheel well lip getting scuffed so I put some tape along the edge to make sure nothing happened. I was very happy with the quality and fit/finish of the bra.

I plan on only using one for road trips but didn't want anything that marred up my paint. branbling mentioned something about the bumper getting scratched . . . what causes that?

You have to stretch it really tight to get it on the first time, so even the feltlike fabric of the bra can leave a mark. It's minor, less than any road abrasion.

I would suggest Clear Bra, but it's overpriced. They should offer templates like sewing patterns and let folks DIY.

I would highly recommend a Clear Bra over the style that can be taken on and off the car. I think the clear bra's are worth the money cause mine has saved me many rock chips on the front alont with a couple of big road gators (tires on the freeway) that people have ran over and flipped at my box. Take a look a Rockblocker on here, Its a good product. I would recommend him to anyone, plus he is a great guy.

The problem with the Clear Bra is that i'm in Alabama . . . The closest place I could find that sells the 3M clear bra is in Tuscaloosa which is about 5 hours away.. . . The irony. . . I'd get my stuff beatup getting there.

Got my Colgan and pending rain this weekend should be the first time I try it out. I think i'm going to line the edges of the hood/fender wells with painters tape just in case. Can't wait to see how it works out.

Fit like a champ. No scratches on any of the paint or clearcoat. Works and looks great! It's nice to not have to worry about rocks chipping the front while on the interstate.

I'm at the Colgan website right now, the only available year for the Xb is 2004, does the 2004 bra fit the 2006 Xb?

Yes, they are identical. I have a 2006 as well. I had the license plate area filled as I don't have a front tag (thank you Alabama) and I left the fog light openings as fog lights are my next upgrade.

Just FYI . . . I got the Carbon Fiber bra and the Carbon Fiber Mirror covers. Love both!

There are several vendors that sell 3M film precut for the xB, for around $250. It would be cheaper if they also offered sheets of 3M film with dotted lines like sewing patterns for you to cut yourself. But the DIY part is just not possible for most owners. It takes training and practice. Is there anyone here who was able to install their hood and bumper film? I was able to do the mirrors, messed up the hood, and sold the bumper to a ScionLifer. He has not reported success.

On the bumper bra, do your lower hooks hold OK on the thick edge of the plastic skirt? My hooks were too small to fit over those edges. They held themself on by the tension of the whole bra, but could be easily knocked off, causing the bottom corners of the bra to be loose and flap.

Mine hook and hold really well. They actually hook with a good bit of the bra's hooker (heh, i said bra and hooker in the same sentence) on the other side of the lip.

I bought one last november and within 2 months, it started coming off when i was on the highway. Now it just sits in my apartment collecting dust. i bought it for $130 and just dont wana throw it away... someone told me i have to take it off during cold weather or when it snows or rains.

if this is the facking case, i shouldn't have bought this if i have to go through the hassle (10 minutes to put it on alone) each time that the weather isnt gonna be pretty.

i've been driving for the past few months w/o it and i dont care if my nose gets chipped anymore. It's a 17k car, not a ferrari ;]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]

They come with a 5-year warranty. If it's coming off i'd send it back and get a replacement.

Regarding having to take it off during rain/snow, this is normal for all automotive bras. True that it's not a ferrari, but I don't want to be driving a beatup looking car so I choose to use the colgan for road trips. For around town I just avoid tailgating people.

damn, i forgot about that, mine is having problems with not holding on by the tirewell anymore... mine is about 16 months old, never had a paint issue with it. whenever i used it, i would wash and wax, and put a 2nd coat of wax where the bra would be...

I do the same thing before I put mine on . . . wax it up. But then I put blue painters tape on the areas where any seams are (overkill but it makes me feel better).
