Those are legal. I am not running them on my xB, but I did have a set like that on my GTI. I like them and they are BRIGHT.

Why are they illegal? Looks like they've got the red reflector that's required...

They appear legal. The brake lights light up red, the turn signals light up red or yellow, the backup lights are clear, and the red reflector is there also. All the reuirements for DOT approved and CA legal. At least according to the CA Vehicle Code.

....MUST BE STAMPED DOT......
Appearances can be deceiving..... My aftermarket tail lights meet all DOT requirements but were never submitted for approval with the DOT so there is no DOT stamped into them. Thus they fail state inspection, IF the inspector looks for the DOT stamped on the sidt of the lenz. I have to swap my stock tails back in to pass inspection. I am now looking for a set of DOT legal tails similar to TYC's.

Ask the seller if they say DOT on them. If so, no problem. If not, swapping is good automotive excersise.

Yah I think they look sweet, the only problem is the brand. Myself
and many others have had different altezza lights (tail, projector)
they seem to have a sealing problem with there lights.
You may want to do a search on here (SL) on brand name.

They do look nice. Do you think the could be wire issues i.e. fried wires like with headlights with too strong of bulbs?

I was looking into those but I don't like the bottom reverse light area. I guess it's the circle housing that surrounds the bulb.

I would say those look a lot better than the other aftermarket tail lights I've seen. Right now I have the euro tail lights from the dealer on my box and I'm liking those but these do look pretty good.

Thanks that helps alot! Now i'm going to get the red ones. How are they on brightness? What bulbs did you put in the reverse and turn lights? Those black ones look pimp on yours.

thanks for the compliments.

I used some POLARG hyper whites for the reverse and some hyper yellows for turn signals front and back. all very bright.

The tails are amazingly bright, everyone that has seen them in person loves the lights. I would recommend these light than any other ones out there right now.
I got these off ebay back in Oct of 05 around 200 a set. they are a bit cheaper now.

here are some off ebay.
