Default Duel Muffler Setup! Couple of Questions for my next project?

A Friend of mine gave me Two nice Universal Tunner mufflers, I want to run a split and have both of them hooked up, I got a Quote from the shop and they sayed $100 to do , but I have to make a new cut out for the second muffler, I know some members have done it , I was wondering How to cut the hole and basically the best tool to use??? Any pics would be nice , Thanks for any help on this project

Don't do it. For one, it will only decrease performance on our tiny little hamster wheels. Secondly, the rear of the xB looks heavy enough as is, two fart cans will only make it worse.

The only aftermarket setup I've seen that complimented the car was a small rectangular tip like 1" x 6' in the center.

i think most of those people who did it right, are gone for one reason or another.

the problem isn't the dual setup, dual EXITS ~that's not "exhaust"~ won't have an affect on the car. it's more the "universal tuner muffler" that's going to be junk.

I talked to a local shop and they were unsure if taping into the existing pipe would cause a performance issue...They recommended welding it up as a dummy pipe, non-functional and merely for looks...

that's gonna look a little funny when one's smoking and he other isn't - isn't it? or when one's getting a little carbon buildup around the edges and the other is all new and shiney??

In theory you could install custom dual headers, each one being fed by 2 cylinders. you'd have two cats, two mufflers and true duals. u could even do an x pipe or h pipe in front of the cats, or delete the cats altogether.

Not sure how the engine's computer would react to it though, but maybe you could reflash the chip, if such a thing exists for the xB.

since you dno't have a "V" style motor, of course it is impossible to run true duals....if you run a "Y" pipe in the middle of the exhuast, for the little bit of compression and power our car puts out, you will be losing back pressure which essentially will make you lose torque/most likey make it idle rough, etc.....I'm sorry, but i've always felt inline motors, run a single...function over fashion

You may be right. I'm not an engineer. I'm afraid my misspent youth devouring every issue of Hot Rod Magazine has prejudiced me against single pipes. It's a wonder I never put duels on my lawn mower!

Default Dual mufflers...

well, I always seem to be the one to disagree with the crowd.....

I put the Borla cat-back dual exhaust on my xb......they look great, they sound
great, and I noticed NO loss in power at all compared to the stock single outlet,
if anything, I gained hp and power.......I couldn't be more pleased with the
system!

You can see pics of mine on this site by either going to my gallery or go to the
reviews-parts-exhaust-Borla dual exhaust and you will see the rear view of my
xb there.

go for it ......duals are the bomb! but I would NOT put a dummy muffler on, that
would be hokey!

Just because it is LOUDER doesn't mean it has more power...

This from a guy that has 2 TypeR badge's on his xB....
