Grill Idea
I was going to paint by grill black, so I was messing areound with this picture. And thought, would it be cool to have the grill match the lower bumper grill? :D
Hey, Guamsilverbox671, where was that pic taken? I spent a total of almost 8 years on Guam when in the Navy. I really liked it over there. Still communicate with lots of folks there.

if you look again, the grill is not painted. it is different.
this forum is not only for things that alter the drag co, but is a fun name used to describe all aspects of the external apearance.
grills paint, CF hoods or wings, winodw vent shades, decals....ie almost anything outside is related to drag co.
got it???

I agree about the bug cleaning - that's one reason I don't even like wheels with a bunch of spokes - cleaning.
I disagree with the name of this forum - "Drag Coefficient" does not tell the average poster as much as "Exterior" would...
But that's an old complaint. I'll leave it alone.
In fact, I even like the bB OD grill better than the stock grill just because it is easier to clean...
As far as just the LOOKS of the hex grill idea that started this - it does look good to me.

I don't think that more cool air circulating around the engine compartment would be a bad thing, but the stock grille is solid, where this would obviously not be. There would be more bugs and dirt to clean up.
Max, as a fellow engineer I would srongly suggest that the back of the top grill be blocked off - yes, it may allow more airflow (and dirt) in the engine compartment, but the current design is better at assuring adequate airflow through the radiators...
Opening up the top grill on the bB/xB seems to reduce the flow through the radiators due to the higher inflow without their being a commensurate increase in outflow area.

Nice overcomplicated engineer talk, btw.
Heheheheheh... You should hear me when I really get going.
Maybe this is better, though:
Opening up the top grill to airflow increases the airpressure in the engine compartment, reducing the airflow through the radiators, which only get air from the bottom two grills.
Naw, that doesn't do it either. Hmmmmmm...
Opening up the top grill to airflow lets the air bypass the radiators.
OK, that will have to do.

Hey thanks for the comments. I'm still thinking of painting it black, and I just looked at another thread were I saw a TCM xb w/ a black griil; looks cool. The honey comb grill was just an idea, thought it look cool to see what the respond would be
Although if this mod were to be a reality, bug cleaning would definetly be a problem
Hey Newtmaker, this pic was taken in my front yard, were I live in Wusstig Road, aprox. 4 miles away from Anderson Airforce Base.
stick_NZ1, yes I do agree that it needs to dropped. Plans for that are ahead but as usaul, mod like this needs some fund which I currently don't have at this time

IF you could find material to make the honeycomb top grill you would just need to put a solid plate behind it. Preferably something that was easy to remove because the bug mess would be impossible to clean down at the bottom of the holes.
If you're gonna paint, check out the thread below. The results are hot!
