You can remove the reflector and the lense around the brake bulb... just carefully pry them apart after baking in the oven for 5 minutes @ 250 degrees (really.) Do a search, there's several how-to's on it.

caution tho... pretty sure its a fed law that requires that there is a red reflector in the tail light assembly somewhere...

tho if you candie the tails red... you may be safe

AFAIK, red reflectors are required on the rear of the vehicle, as opposed to merely a red color. If you candy your tails and leave the reflectors in, you're good.

If you completely clear your tails, presumably you could stay street legal by adding red reflectors elsewhere on the rear, as long as they were near the corners.

OTOH, I have no idea how frequently folks are actually cited for such things.

You'll have folks behind you swerving thinking they're about to have a headon collision.

Personally I would rather the tailights looked normal instead of this faddish clear stuff, but I'm too lazy to do anything about it. I'll probably get the TYC taillights someday.

The TYC looks good with the black xB so I'm just gonna wait until I want to spend the money.

If you take the bulb cover off you should still be legal,That is it you dont remove the reflector on the dead portion of the tail.Just dont forget to run "RED" bulbs in the top after you remove the bulb cover.

I have a question,Has anybody tried to "DYE" the lense's with Rit dye I was thinking that it midgt give you the pinkish color like the Lexus.

I haven't tried dying the actual housings, but I have tried dying the bulbs. I used a quality product from a theatrical lighting company and it still didn't last. I only did a single coat, but I don't think more coats would have mattered. In the end they went pink, then white just like the aftermarket color bulbs you can buy.

I tried this. I preheated for only 10 mintues, and I only put them in for 4 minutes to be safe.

Well... I melted one of my tails. TOTALLY jacked.

So, now I'm buyin' some replacements... <---NOT HAPPY.

anywho, wouldn't it be possible to shatter them instead of sticking parts of my car into the oven?

It's not too bad. I got a new pair for 40 bux shipped off of ebay... wich means when I pull my meled buddie out to replace him, I can see if the shattering method works... if it does... well I'm goin' that route!

In the next few days I'll be posting a writeup of my taillight mod. It'll show how to take them apart and make them as clear as possible (legally). I did install LED bulbs as they are clear when not lit up.

I'll post it as a separate thread - look for it.

I did mines without baking them. It took about 10 min each, and i chipped them a little, but nothing superglue couldn't fix. All you have to do is pry up the grey part along the tabs. If you aren't very careful and put too much pressure on the clear part, snap. and you will have to glue it back...

That looks good but I wanted to stay legal, so I left some of the red reflectors show. I hav all the pictures ready but I have to finish the writeup - almost there.

Yeah, I chipped one of mine and glued the chip back.

I chipped the living crap out of mine... but it's all inside, so You can't see it.

<---doesn't care.

And I put in Red Leds on the top so my brake light still looks clear, but shines red.
