Default how to paint

dont know if im posting in the right section

I just got a new back bumper for my xb (messed up my old one) and i wanted to paint it my self. Im a DIY guy but i dont know where to start. I can get a hold of all the tools compressor spray gun etc... I know i need to primer the bumper and then what do i do to get the tcm color, what color is the base? i know the clear coat is 1D2, I dont know anything but i want to learn because i got a project car that i wanna paint. any help will be appericated.

pratice pratice pratice...I would start on other things first. You will need to pratice your spray technique as in length away and strokes...all be prepared to sand...sand...and sand. You will need a sander and buffer for sure. This is my lil bit of painting knowledge hope it helps.

oh yea i know, i got my damaged bumper to practice on. Imma shave down the rear side marker on my damaged bumper to practice that too. any got a basic step by step instruction on how to paint

Simply take your paint code to your local automotive paint store (yellow pages) and ask all these questions. You will need the proper primer, paint (the base coat is the color, the topcoat is clear), and possibly a flex additive, reducer, thinner for cleanup. and a spraygun. The spraygun can be a touch-up gun for this type of painting. If all goes well, there will be no sanding involved, assuming you have new parts.

Dont forget your hardners.. make sure you get the proper one for where your painting tempature wise or your clear top coat will dull down..
