Default if you were given a SCION, what would you do to stand out?

i'm freakin' stoked... my team was picked by scion, along with 2 other teams in the nation to compete with an HIN sponsored challenge. you can say that we'll represent the east coast. we're not sure on what model car we're going to receive, and unsure of our budget... but we do have a plan in mind on what direction we want to take... whatever we're given.

i'm curious on what people would do to a 'scion' other than the normal stuff. suggest your ideas if you like [xA, xB, tC], no idea is stupid nor impossible... no holds barred you can say. as much as possible, we'd like to build this car to satisfy the masses... can't make everyone happy! ;)

i would start by painting the inside......... diff. headlights/tailights (any of the cars)

MY DREAM is to have my xb have a 3 part roof that i can take apart to make it convertiable and have the rear window roll down cause it would be a BIG drag with the window up in the back that would rellay stand out an xb with no roof

i have other ideas with the xb's but none with an xa or tc, i have never been in them or driven them.

thanks zach... well you know how our cars are... we're gonna try and stick to our jade style which incorporates form with function, cuz you know how we like to drive our cars pretty much everyday. but yeah, if you think of anything out of the ordinary, i'd like to hear about it.

nightwishkid: so what i'm picturing is something like the bB open deck mixed in with a mini cooper convertible?

chop a few inches outta the roof, or chop it all off all together and go for a "Roadster" look

Nobody has done gull wing doors yet although it has been much talked about. If you could pull it off it would be a show stopper.

Of course that's out if you get a tC. If a tC is chosen though, there's only one thing to do, RWD.

In seeing multiple competitions like this I have found two things that lead to victory. Adhering to a theme throughout the vehicle (especially a "mascot" theme like a cartoon character or something like that. Cheesey yes, but they win) and having one absolutely show-stopping effect.

Good luck!

One show stopper that takes alot of time, and effort is shaving the engine bay and doing a wire tuck.

You hide everything in the engine bay so there are no cables, wires, hoses, NOTHING! The car doesn't even look like it runs.

Here is an example on a VW.

Ooh I got a bunch of ideas!! Ok so the xB I say go VIP with and give it a color that stands out!! For the tC I say slap the Kaminari kit on, TRD supercharger, TYC tails, and make it Hot Lava and then do what ever else and I say that would be 1 hot tC!!!

another vote for a roadster. an xA roadster would be quite unique. I kinda think a xB roadster would remind me of a VW thing .

What kind of time frame are you working with? How extensive are you willing to go with the modifications?

If you are willing to take your time, this is what I would do...

TC...

19" Forged Wheels with a nice lip, but enough backspacing to tuck
Air Suspension (Talk to an Air Runner dealer)
A very subtle body (lip) kit... I am not too familiar with what is out there, but something subtle that gives a slightly lower wider look.
Shaved EVERYTHING - That includes smoothing out the engine bay/firewall.
Custom Billet Grills
HID Conversion
Turbo Kit
Full Exhaust
Quality Full leather interior
High end replacement carpet
High End Audio/Video System, but not too wild. No more than two 12s and three monitors
Consider suiciding the doors
Consider swapping out the tail lights for something truly custom (not just an available aftermarket light)
Basically, just build a super clean, high quality, low wide ride.
KILL THEM WITH THE DETAILS!!!

And I guess most of what I have said would ring true for both the xA and xB as well.

However, specific to the xA...

Can you say "two door?" Extend the front doors and eliminate the rears. Or extend the front, suicide the rears and make them smaller like on Saturns and extended cab trucks. Your talking tons of cash for custom glass though.

Again, bags for sure, along with the custom forged wheels. I'd go with as big as you could fit and still allow the suspension to drop all the way down. (Probably 18s.) The Noblesse kit is really nice for this car.

Motor wise I would say supercharged with a 30 shot or so of Nitrous would definitely turn some heads. Detail the engine bay like crazy. Maybe even do the engine bay like I suggested for the TC.

I would also consider a tail light swap here. Maybe something from another production vehicle. But completely one-off would always work here as well.

Then specific to the xB...

Subtlety has always been the key for me. The Noblesse kit again is nice, as is the South Yokohama kit. Bags and forged wheels are also a must.

And since I am most familiar with the xB, here is what everyone has been screaming for...

Motor Swap. Either a supercharged Celica GT motor or a N/A GTS motor. Or swap it and take it even further with engine mods. Nothing is cooler than a toaster on wheels smoking cars they should have no business racing.

Suicide the rear doors. It has been done a couple times, but it is a classic look and works quite well on the xB.

CHOP THAT TOP. It doesn't have to be a ton. Just enough to get the proportions right. 2" would probably be plenty.

Completely shave the back end. No more bumper, set it up roll pan style to match whatever lip kit you choose. Dump the stock tails completely for some custom LED backed Lexan or Acrylic lenses.

Leather and upgraded carpet throughout for sure. As well as the high end audio video system.

DO NOT...
Gull Wing or "Lambo" the doors
Add a wild body kit
Install tons of audio Video
Slap on spinners or any other "bling" chrome wheel
Install suede in the interior

At least that what comes to me right off the top of my head. I can't wait to see what you guys have planned, and the execution to follow. Oh, and congratulations.
