Default Info on door mirror covers?

Been looking for custom replacement power door mirrors, but the majority of finds are 'covers' like on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/03-06...spagenameZWDVW

These covers are new for me. Getting some good info from the forums, but basically want to know for sure that the internals of the stock mirror assembly including the mirror have to be removed and then placed in this new cover?
Hope that's not too obvious of a question.

For those, you'd need to remove the mirror to run the wiring.

So the procedure would be similar to this from CLUBXB?

^^^Exactly what I had to do when I painted my RS2 mirrors...
The pain in the butt was running the wiring from the mirrors to the side markers in the front fenders. It took me a total of about 3 hours from start to finish...

Ok. Just getting a feel for what I need to do. Did you have to drill any extra holes to run the marker wire? I see some other occasional comments about having to do that.

Maybe two holes! Run the wire inside of the door and thru the rubber boot in between the door and body. Get a hanger to grab the wire and run it thru the side marker hole in the fender. I soldered the wires to the side marker harness and wrapped it with heat shrink tubing and wrapped it with electrical tape! The 2 holes I drilled were to hold the wire against the inside of the door to keep the wire from being damaged by the door check that moves inside of the door when opening and closing the door.

Thanks Metro.

Phat,
I have looked at those JDMs. I wonder why they cost so much more than other stuff I see, especially Ebay. Is there something special about them? Better quality? Or is the Ebay stuff significantly lower quality?
