So I got those vinyl tint applications from BlueBatman, which looked really nice and high quality.

The trouble is I just can't get them to go on without looking like ____. I did everything he mentioned such as using the water/soap spray, but no matter what there were ripple and bubbles all over the place and no matter of trying to remove them worked.

In the end, I said screw it and threw them out.

Once again...this is why I pay other people to do my mods as EVERY time I try something myself, I ____ it up.

Oh well, I guess I'm gonig to have to deal with the lame looking bright white lights.

 

What were they overlays for? Headlights? Taillights?

 

Ya overlays for the headlights and tails. I should have known it would take more skill than I could manage. Pretty sad.

Anyways, they would have looked great. I just couldn't get them on correctly. Definitely not as easy as it may seem.

I think tomorrow I'm going to call a local automotive tint shop and see if they can do something themselves. I'm sure they could use some kind of window tint and apply it professionally to get the job done without my noobage skills.

 

the trick about the water/soap combo is that all your surfaces have to be clean. Then its a matter of keeping everything soaked, including the sticky side when you peel the tint apart. You can go to O'Reilly's and pick up a cheap window tint kit and use the squeegee to pull the water out and constantly watch for the ends to bubble up. Just keep squeegeeing (not sure how to spell) and make sure it gets time to sit out in the sun. If you have a heat gun, be very careful when using it to shrink your edges and don't burn your tint. I haven't tinted in three years until recently, and you're right, there is a certain level of skill involved.

 

Well I called the local auto tint shop, and they said they would install it for me for no charge. I've gotten my Corvette tinted there, and my wife's Mazda6 (before she got her xB) so they said they'd do me the favor since it won't take them long at all.

So I think I'll go ahead and place another order for the tint from BB and let the pros handle the job. I'll be sure to post pics afterwards. too bad i didn't take any of my half ___ job for a side by side...
