I won't be able to give you a comparison of before/after with the output... (Unless I can find someone in town with stock fogs.) However, once I get these polished the way I like them, I'll post up some pics of the completed project.

Sweet thanks Mario! That's exactly what I was wanting to see. I believe the polishing will give me a better visual appearance without diving into the deeper pockets for alumachroming.

My roommate looked at this thread... he said you can buy SunTube extensions. They're essentially mirror polished metal that could be cut via template and adhered to the inside of the fog housing. Might be an interesting idea.

Here's a couple shots to show an update.
This is after sanding with 1600 wet. I'm going to take them to the polishing wheel hopefully on saturday. Pardon the extremely low quality of the shot, I had to use my webcam as my wife took my camera with her again.

Alright... I know this looked like quite a bit of work to finish... but here's the final product:
I think the final look is just as good as JDM fogs. I haven't found another box with OEM fogs yet to take a picture as a side by side before/after, but I'll continue looking.
