This is probably about the easiest "mod" ever - bought some high power white LED bulbs from http://autolumination.com/ for my TYC tail lights.

Left side is OEM filament bulb. Right side is the LED:

DZ, you're observant and probably right. I can't tell when I'm backing up if they're actually providing any more light or not. It's definitely not a dramatic improvement, if any.

 

Hotdog, I'll just save my $20 and keep the stockers!! :-)
Seriously, they probably look better, even if they put out no more light.

 

Minor update - just found out tonight that these things might be generating some major RFI (radio frequency interference).

I had the FM radio playing, which is rare; I'm normally always listening to MP3 CD's. When I shifted into reverse to put the car into the garage, I got a lot of static in the radio.

Shift out of reverse, static goes away. Shift into reverse, static comes back.
