Default outside mirror disassembly question

Does the mirrors simply pop out from the housing with a good tug or is it secured some how from the backside?

...more or less. There are some small tabs in there that you pry against. Have done it a few times, I believe there's something in the DIY tech section that covers it.

Yes, referring to the mirror (glass) itself. Removing the actually mirror from the mirror housing/cover.

Didn't see anything in the tech section...

yes, kind of... How did you get to the tabs. Just push the mirror upward and work on that adhesive stuff? I see tabs, but don't understand there direction.

yeah, just pull from the bottom of the mirror. you can see the two clips and put a screwdriver in ther to help pry...
the adhesive stuff will strech a bit. just go easy, it takes a few mins to do each one...

Can I ask what you are doing? What is the upgrade you are adding to your xb that requires removing the mirror? Thanks

Thinking about adding the JDM mirrors with turn signals.

the mirror is held in place by the clips, not the glue.

but the glue is soft and will re-adhere when put back together.

From a previous thread with photos:
"Push the top of the mirror back to tilt it all the way up. Then use your fingers or a screw driver to pop the bottom the mirror out, (there are 2 clips on the bottom of the mirror and then the top hinges will just pull out.)"

I think the glue holds the mirror to the backing plate that pops out.
It looks like someone did know the technique for popping the mirror out, and so pried on it until it came unglued from its backing plate.

i think your about 90% right on that...

the glue looks to hold the mirror to the black frame.
but it also looks like it should stop and small vibrations to the movement base...
