Default Painted Grille Differently

I decided to paint my grille with a different effect. What do you think?

hmmm! Interesting! Makes the honeycombs the primary focus of the front end. I think it is a different look---need to sleep on this one!

How did you paint them? On the face-edge only? Roller? Spray?

Very interesting!

They are painted on the leading edge only. The trick was I had to primer the plastic first to get the paint to adhere. The primer is spray, the yellow comes in a can. I sprayed the primer into a tray and used a detail roller with light pressure. Next, i poured the yellow into another tray and used a detail roller with light loading of paint and light pressure.

It really isn't the primary focus. It is here because I made it so in the photos and it is the topic of the thread. In person the effect is very natural and looks like it should have been that way from the factory. I'm going to SoCal Scions in 90 minutes. I'll get their feedback and report back in this thread.

yes, this is really interesting. We see better what you did.

So more feedback, please.

This is clearly appealing. I hope the in-person responses were/are all positive.

At the SoCal Scions meet tonight I came early but had to leave very early so only a handful of people looked at it. Everyone liked it. They liked the way it brought out the honeycomb design in the grille. Several liked the color matching as well.

Not bad but I prefer more contrast. You may think about silver to match the top grill.

Very Nice
The contrast some would prefer is provided by the background.
Yeller vs shadow is about as contrasting as one can get.
You did a great job. This coming from one who's CAMObox is still stock

I bow, we bow, bees bow
(and how!) on angled
insect knees all bow
to UBOW!

Further explain, please
to the birds, to the bees
this prow painted, yeller-ing
"ge-om-e-try!"

Peeps puzzle, "whut's that?"
while the bees go splat,
entranced by your comb
that looks too much like home

So, drive slow, drive with care for
bees bumble in err.

hmmm....
As for bees and bee geometry
(which they do so well)
never mind those math skills;
I only wish bees could read
that UBOW'S box is NOT
any "home, sweet home".
Then no bees would buzz there
where xB's got killed

lame fun on a rainy sunday. (fun for me, anyway) bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt BAM (oww!)

I like that. I was thinking of doing that to a BOP when I get it.

The RS 2.0 grille isn't silver, it is anodized steel which gives it a slight amber color. It would be very difficult to match without going to a professional painter to have it mixed. I'm not going to spend that kind of money.

correct me if I am wrong, but I dont believe steel cant be anodized...it is too dense...only very porous metals like Aluminum can be Ano'd...I'm almost certain of it...I'm not sayin this to say u dont know anything...just putin in my two cents
