I was talking about this the other day. Quite honestly I don't know what there purpose is for. But with that aside I was curious what one would look like. Would be different.

Get ready to put the Flame suit on. I almost put a roof scoop on my focus but would have to relocate the antenna. some roof scoops look great if their molded nicely and cleanly. but ... eh..... uh....... i dont know....... for the xB :-\ ? Photoshop anyone?

The real reason is that rally cars will replace their sunroofs with them so they can still get air into the car but, without the added weight of a glass roof. Also, Rally cars will get rid of a/c so it can get quite hot and smelly in there.

So there you go, like every other tuner trend, its to mimic something that actually does have some purpose....but, generally is only done to LOOK like the original.

A perfect example, is aluminum wings. They do have function in TCC, but, not or your moms Yugo!

These are designed to lay (almost) flush with the top of your vehicle, so it would be functional AND look nice.

However, if you plan on doing something like this:

I think it would look like an air conditioner on a motor home.

I think the hood scoops look good though.
