Default Shaved Taillights.

How many people have shaved thier tailights off, and what did you use as a filler?

When ever you shave a major item like that, It is always a good idea to weld a metal plate to the spot.

I haven't seen any that truely shaved them. Seem a few that painted and molded the light. The compound curve of the light would make it hard to do without a shaver panel. Someone with some sheetmetal skills aught to be able to make them tho. If you find a good source let me know.

I'm not going to go looking for his posts, but just do a search for posts from "jay berkshire". His is one of the few xBs that has had the tail lights shaved. Along with everything else under the sun.

To do it right, yes you have to have metal panels fabricated to fit. You and also build a "frame" with heavy gauge wire or steel rod to build the compound curved shape. Then overlay that with strips of sheet metal. You can use the frame you built as the attachment point for the adjacent sheet metal strips. The hardest part with both of these methods will probably be wrapping around the corner. It will take some time, but can be and has been done.

Who knows, maybe after I get my own xB I will talk to some people I know about manufacturing filler panels for the box.

Oh... and here is a pic of the rear of Jay's xB...

We need old school minitruck parts. Shaver panels and lexan windows with tag buckets!

That is exactly what I was talking about. Well, save for the lexan windows. I have never cared for those because of the maintenance and wiring for the license plate light.

I was considering talking to Bob Grant about creating filler panels for the xB for us. I would be more than happy to leave my xB with him of a few days. For those who don't know who this guy is, he is THE premier metal man in mintrucking. But his talents extend far beyond what normal minitruckers do. His skills are absolutely amazing and his sheet metal products are second to none. In fact I used one of his roll pans and his tail light fillers on my Dakota.

And for all of you old school minitruckers, he was the mad man behind all of the offerings from Alter Image way back when.

If you want to check out the parts he currently makes, check out his website...

Yeah Bob G. is a pimp,

I was asking because I keep hearing many things about how people are doing thier tails. I heard bondo the seams of the plastic tails and paint, panel bond reshape. and the worst one I heard was a fiberglass filler with bondo on the seam.

I was never a big fan of those windows in trucks either. But for some odd reason, I think it would be really cool in the scion. Moving the tag to one side or the bumper jsut seems like a big investment with a minimal return.

But if you get grant to make some filler parts. I am sure they would sell. I'd buy a set.
