How hard do u think it would be to make the very back window able to roll down with a button?

Hard is not the word-

Its how creative you can be-

look into the actual designs of other cars and suv's and just try to incorporate that with your ride. The rear hatch is hallow on the XB;s but you you may have to redesign the rear glass and how its incorporated with the rear hatch also. It may involve revamping the whole thing......

Creativity and patience, there are no kits available to do this with xb models.

MAKE ONE!!

Peace-

anything is possible with enough time and money. But t would be VERY difficult. I wanted to remove the rear window glass, clean up the adhesive, and install a set of hinges to make the rear window open up.

When Randy says something would be VERY difficult, I tend to back away from the idea.
It would be neat though. I'd permanently have a surfboard sticking from the tail to show off....probably die of back-draft exhaust...but I'd be cool for a while.

They made a kit for mini trucks that made the back window roll down into the cab like what you want.. I dont remember how complicated it was but I dont see this as being "Much" differant than that. search mini truck sites for roll down back window.. the question I have is, is there enough room for it to go all the way down.. the hatch itself is thin and in the middle it has all the handel and tag indent + silinoids for thehatch release... might be a little tight.. just my .02

Cool! A rear safari window on an xB!

I think that a safari would be much easier than a roll-down window, and probably function better as well.

For a roll-down, you'd have to cut the glass in (it currently is flush), arrange for tracks and retract mechinism, and fashion some sort of seal around the top and sides. That's a lot of engineering! Is this trip really worth it?

having a rear back window that rolls down would definitely be sweet.

Well, front safaris were a factory option on those things, but rear safaris were definitely aftermarket.

On an xB I wouldn't want to drive with the rear safari open, as there would be a definite problem with exhaust and road dust being pulled into the interior.

i thought about that too. when i went to my first scion meet i talked to a few people if it was possible to have the window part swing up/out and then have the rest of the trunk swing down like a truck bed so you could just slide in your crap. back then randy and jon said it would be too hard so i didn't bother.

you also have to think about the rear wiper. cars with rear windows that roll into the hatch have rear wipers the sit on the hatch when the wiper is not in use. on xbs the wiper sits on the actuall glass and doesnt go all the way down to sit on the hatch. it wouldnt be that big of an obstacle, you could just eliminate the wiper or modify it so it would sit on the hatch when not in use. but it is something to consider. I think a pop open window would be awesome, i hate when i go to close my hatch, get back in my car and realize i didnt slam it hard enuff and have to get back out and do it agian. yes im lazy, but it gets old real quick.

i had safari's on my '61 microbus back in the day.

hell ya, i vote for that. bring your favorite other car and i'll bust out my beat up 67 barracuda.

someone will eventually do the rear but it's just a matter of time before they get creative with the rest of the car.

some alarms have "window rollup/down" kits
they have a module/relay that has a timer on it that u preset
on how long u want the circuit closed for(to power the window).

a kit like that will be cool. u know? like maybe a DEI window rollup and down
kit that u hook up to a switch.

it not a timer but a thermal switch if the the curcuit draws to much current, it will stop the up motion. I get what you are saying, but I think the back glass would be far to heavy. It would require two seprarte relays one for up and one one for down. Not hard to do, reverse polarity rest at ground would work or even a latching relay would work. Who will build the track? Linear actuator would provide all the up down motion, builging a track and running wires into the hatch would be the some first problems.Hinges still sound best.Bill
