My driver's side window is rattling when I put it down just a little and I can't figure out why or how to fix it.

any help?

 

It's rattling because the top of the glass doesn't have any support. When it's up all the way, it's held by the door frame. When it's down all the way, it's in the door. When it's halfway, it's gonna rattle. That's just the nature of glass.

 

Mine does the same thing, it bothers me, but i couldn't think of a way to prevent it. Comes with owning a 15k dollar car.

 

That was the first thing i noticed when i got my box. I thought to myself my better honda didn't do that.

 

What!? I refuse to resign myself to the fact that my car will "just do that". I have the same problem with my '04, but with both of my front windows, it bothers me! A friend of mine has an '06 and he doesn't seem to have the same issue (maybe he just doesn't notice it?).

There has to be a way to fix it. Anyone have any ideas?

 

Well i noticed mine after i got my es visors
they'd tap against the visor a tad on high mph

i never drive half down either all up or all down

What i HAVE noticed is when they are up if you wedge something in the top its fine
SO my plan is to go to a fabric store cut a strip and pop it in the topso that the gap is smaller for the window to go in.

That will stop rattles when up all the way

halfway down would probably make you check the scissors inside and rest of the pieces
back in the day civics were NOTORIOUS for that and the dealer fix was

1. lubricate the tracks with silicone lubricant
2. replace motor etc etc

So i keep a bottle and lube once a month.

 

My windows do not rattle when they are either completely up or completely down. The only time that I have an issue is when the windows are partially down. My thought was "hey, maybe the weather stripping's a little worn, I'll replace it!" and then my friendly neighborhood stealership told me that it's $70+ per window just for the parts to replace it.

I'm still thinking that that's the problem. I just don't want to pay that price to find out that it's NOT the problem.

 

Try calling a local tint place
i know they sell these felt strips for cars with tight doors so it doesn't scratch the tint
maybe we could use THOSE to cut down the "wiggle room" making it tighter?

If i get some time this week i'll call some local places for you and see what i can turn up

That is not the problem. mine has rattled when part way down since the first day i owned it.

 

Good info. I wouldn't know since I got mine used, I figured it could have been worn by the time I got my hands on it. I still want to fix it tho. Are there any opinions on TypeX's idea of using felt strips to fill the gap?

Mine doesn't rattle if it's in 1 place, it only rattles as it goes up or down...

I'm going to take it apart 1 of these days and see if I can figure out what's causing it to do that...

I've owned several 'cheap' cars and never had any do this before, but I still love my box...

The best fix is to remove the interior panel to expose the "guts" of the door. Then you will see two rails that the window rides in. Its an easy fix (a bit time consuming tho) and involves snugging the rails aganist the glass. I have been told that in time, they will loosen again, so if you do this fix spend the money and get some locktite and do it right.

 

bump! bringing it back to life, did this work, or did anyone find a different solution?

 

My 04 has never done that... But it is defenitly the side rails inside the door that causes this to happen.

 

Have the same window rattling in my box... Seems like the glass is loose inside the support mechanism... 8-(

 

Seems like this is a common issue. I experience similar symptoms on my 99 4Runner.

If anyone has photos of these rails that hold the window within the door it could only help.

I'm a newbie to this forum and I believe I have to make 10 posts before I can add a picture, but next time I have either the Runner or the xB's door panels off I will gladly take some.

It is annoying to not be able to crack the window just a bit for some fresh air without it rattling around in the frame.
