Default xB License Plate holder

Unfortunately, I live in one of those states that requires the display of a front license plate. So, the plates came for my wife's xB and...there's no place to mount it!! I thought it's no big deal...just leave it off. It looks better without it. But, when she went for the driver's license test, they wouldn't let her drive it without the plate. They said "It's illegal to operate this vehicle on the road".

So, I told her to go over to the Scion dealer and have them put a license plate holder on. They claim Scion does not make one and they wanted to screw the plate directly to the bumper. What idiots! I told her not to let them do that.

Anyone know where to get a license plate holder? Is it really true that Scion does not have one?

The Scion dealer is connected to a Toyota dealer. The service guys are the ones that said they wanted to screw the plate right to the front bumper. I assume they know what the parts department has.

Bracket...that's what I'm talking about! I do not want a license plate bolted directly to the front bumper with nothing in between.

Lucky you!

There are two little dimples for location. They drilled mine before I could stop them and just screwed it on with two big wood type screws.

I would have preferred the side mounted bracket. Oh well.

Exactly... count yourself lucky. Every dealer in my area mounts the front plate before they put the cars out on the lot.

Check out the picture of my car in my profile. I bought this frame on Ebay. I attached it to the bottom of the airdam. Also do a search and you will see other threads. You can buy a holder at any parts store and bolt through your grill.

Yes, I can see that. Scion makes dimples showing where to attach the license plate frame...but they don't make a license plate frame! How much sense does that make?

Yeah, that's what they wanted to do, but I stopped them. That is not an acceptable solution.

Thanks. I went to Ace Hardware last night. I picked up some 3/16" threaded bolts about 5" long. I also got 6 fender washers and 6 nuts along with 4 lock washers. I bolted the plate and a license plate cover right to the lower grille. I also picked up some small rubber bumpers for the top part of the plate just in case it hits the bumper (probably won't tho, I left about 3/4" space).

With the license plate cover, I spent about $12.

Go to the back of your xB, take out the giant bolt thing from under the driver side carpet cover, drill holes in your plate, mount plate to giant bolt thing with zip ties, screw giant bolt thing into bumer behind small square cutout in front bumper!

See, scion does make a front license plate holder...

I think he means to get the hardware that holds the spare tire and jack in and use it to attach the license plate.

At least you were able to stop them. Now I have two ugly holes in my front bumper.

That's unfortunate. Thanks to the help of our fellow posters here, and a little ingenuity, I was able to avoid that situation.

They drilled mine, but I relocated it anyways using a custom fabbed bracket to mount it to the underside of the lower grill and off to the side.

I bought some black plastic plugs from Lowes and popped those into the old holes. It blends pretty well (black) with the Camo color, but once I find some touchup paint I'll be painting them to match.
