Default Xb window tint...Possibility to remove the tint?

I am getting an xb... and I wanted to go with a different style tint. So how would I go about removing the stock tint? is it even possible?

Sadly, no, it is a colored glass, I have checked with PPG about ordering new clear glass, and they only carry the privacy glass. Unless you could get it from Japan for a bB maybe?

Yup, it's colored glass. The bB in Japan comes un-tinted, and I believe the conversion has been done.

Thanks... That is very good to know. I thought it would look clean if I got a polar white xb and remove the tint. I guess that vision is lost

you can get the glass. windowtint on here did.

it is the glass from an NCP30 toyota bB vs. the NCP31 (that is colored). the NCP30 is clear but QUITE expensive.

I'm sure there's a few importing options, but more or less - you'll have to buy direct from Toyota. And no... it's not cheap - not even remotely cheap - by anyone's definition. The only reason I did it was because to many SL.com idiots said "can't be done" "it wont fit" "it's illegal" "it's not as safe as USDM glass" etc etc etc (by the way - all those things are untrue). Anyhow - only 2 sets have ever been imported, both for me. First set arrived broken from poor packing and rough transit. Reordered, bought another set. Retail pricing and exceptionally good packing? I'd expect it'd be somewhere near 4k? 5k? After 2 full sets and shipping.... I'd thinking total "value" was somewhere near 10k? give or take a few thousand.

Still want a set? (keep in mind everyone says it's 'impossible').

A $10,000 "I told you so." makes you more of an idiot.

I do enjoy the irony though. "windowtint" paid close to 75% of MSRP of his car to not have window tint.

It's an old saying in the customizing world.... "sure you can do it.. but is your wallet deep enough?"

Anything can be done... if you have the funds...

who said he paid that for it? he just gave you an approximate retail price. NEVER assume. break it down ___/u/me when you assume you make an a$$ out of u and me doing this does not make him an idiot, doing this makes everyone that said it cant be done, WRONG and he should be greatly commended for acheiving this

now that i have vented, i know him personally and i can promise you he is not idiot and he even tints windows for a living LOL

hope you are not doing any illegal colors for your tint. May you can check your local auto glass shops and see if they are willing to do a trade in for a small fee. Oh wellz it's worth a try.

hmmm.... i thought the post could be read pretty clearly what it would cost RETAIL for the glass ...$4-5k per set if all goes well in one shipment. ...double that should anything go wrong and you have order AGAIN.

You need to go a little slower and concentrate more on comprehension and less on completion (bet you've heard that a few times haven't ya son ). I didn't pay 10k for glass .. never said I did .. but would have if need be. I'm not an eBay warrior, I buy what I want - not what's cheapest. It's only a stupid toy-play-car that no one feels bad about cutting up the sheet metal on - this gives me something to do for a goof-off hobby... it's an Echo. who cares.

I've never bought anything solely as a "I told you so" item - it's for me, the rest is gravy. This cost me TIME more than money.

if you did some serious footwork and had a lot of patience to import by freighter and could convince someone to sell to you at cost?? you maybe could get a full set at a w/d or jobber price of $2K + shipping? maybe. half of retail more or less.

and MathlessMike... 10k is 55% of this particular RS1's retail price .. not 75%. Not that that's entirely relevant . - but if you're going to try an harangue someone, make sure you can't be faulted for it. -- *tip* - for future reference Microsoft include an on-screen calculator for free with Windows on your computer.

CATALEPSIC .. not sure who you're talking to .. but what's "illegal" varies widely from state to state - and the laws are generally aimed at the vehicle owners, not the businesses.

active9x is from LA as clearly stated next to his icon. Since LA is in California it's illegal to have Yellow color or red color tint. Oh wellz I'm just clearing things up from what I said.

active9x it's your choice on what you want to do. People do stuff illegal anyways and cops dont enforce some things. I dont know how it is in LA but I tint my windows in the front sides also which is also illegal I didn't get caught yet.. thank goodness.

ohhh... ok.. i get ya Catalepsic... agreed. not to mention looking through all red or yellow (or other color) windows while driving really messes with your vision. Just not safe really (yeah I know... others [w/o 20 years in the business] will disagree... and I'm not interested in a debate on safe vs. not safe about it.)
