$2000 Dollar Mistake (and a new car)
Hey folks, I haven't posted in a while but lets get into the discussion.
As some of you may know, I modded the xB so that the remote silencer/display for my radar detector could be hidden in the dash. Here is that post.
Part of the mod involved cutting a small hole in the area behind the wheel to feed the wires through. Well, I just traded my xB in for a new BMW and the appraiser noticed that and deducted the cash offer from $10000 to $8000!! What a bummer. The reason the KBB outlook was fair was due to some hit and run damage and general wear. The xB had about 25,000 miles on it.
So, if you want to punch holes in your car, just think about it twice.
But I'm still getting a sick car, so my overall outlook is good.
Here are the stats:

It's true. Check other dealerships for trades. Some might not be as picky. If they really wanted your business, they'd have stepped it up.
Then again... how big was the hole?
Holes can be made reasonably inconspicuous.

That $2000 mistake you accepted is going to seem insignificant as soon as you inevitably start showing-off that hp increase - with premium fuel! Ponderous.

The 335 is a sweet machine !!
I'm on my 3rd BMW and I can tell you a few things you might have forgotten to mention that will both increase and decrease.
First, the difference between a Japanese car and a German car are:
The Japanese car was made to work on with common hand tools on the side of the road, where as the German car was made to work on by highly trained Technicians with very expensive and highly proprietary special tools in a shop environment.
What will decrease is your ability to work on your own vehicle and your ability to find any sort of manual to do that work. BMW just does not release that sort of information to us, the common folk. Just wait until you try to remove an interior part for you radar detector. BMW uses some very high tech fasteners in their cars, and you need the manuals to figure it out. Break it, and you'll think that $2000 trade in hit was a cake walk. You will pay just about that much for just the shift ****, let alone an interior part like a door panel. Any work that will be done WILL be done at the shop by BMW or they WILL void your warranty.
What will increase is your cost of ownership. Just wait until your cool BMW maintenance reminder lights come on and tell you to do an oil change. No pushing in the trip odo button and turning on the key here. But an appointment at the dealership, and $150 later, they will reset your lights for you with their special tool. But don't worry, they will be back on soon enough for your first of many mandatory BMW "Inspections". Have near a grand ($$$) ready for each one of those too.
I'm glad I had my BMW's. They were the best cars I ever owned and the finest "drivers" cars money can buy. But never again for me. They have made it so hard to own one with their lack of information and the way they treat their buyers as less of a human.
Heck, even Lexus will sell you a work shop manual.[/b]

Aren't there enough holes in the firewall to put another cable through? Yeah, I can see how putting non standard holes in you car would decrease the resale. The holes are obvious things they can see, probably makes them wonder what else was done that's not so obvious. xB to BMW? C'mon...
Eh you could have saved 35 grand and bought a ls1 camaro. Not as nice inside but will make a BMW look stupid on the street. M5 you say? Put a few grand in mods on the ls1 and get back to stupid. BMW is a look at me car anymore.
you forgot to post the massive decrease in people who will be able to tell your car apart from everything else with doors and four wheels
and i'm morbidly curious about gas mileage...just for fun...

But still, even then, why do they only get 300 HP with twin turbos? The mustang only has two more cylincers, no turbo, and you have the Nissan 350z thats 300 HP with a 6 cylinder and no turbo. I'm thinking it's so they have something else to charge you to fix.

Plus they are easy as hell to work on and you don't need to make a trip to the dealer to reset the oil change light. I love my LS1 Camaro and do everything myself, the only time it's ever been to a shop is to have the rear differential rebuilt and new gears swapped in(lower ratio).
Aftermarket support is huge and if you know where to shop speed parts can be had for cheap used.
Another even better option is an '05/'06 LS2 GTO. Fit/finish and interior quality is leaps and bounds ahead of the f-bodies.
So in other words BMW is short for trying to compensate for something else.... The only place where they might be considered better is interior, yep, because you need that nice interior to make you feel better when your sitting in it on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck.
?? If you have the cash flow for a BMW ???? Why would you have to take a hit on a trade in verses just selling the Scion yourself !!! PS Every time one of our club Scion guys has an issue, We all help to fix it. Would hate to be sitting in the BMW on the side of the rd with no idea, And a very big repair bill
