Default 18in wheels vs. 17in wheels

Anyone have problems with 18s with 2in drop? 17s offer more room for bounce and cushion but 18s look hot. Both have a lot of pros & cons for me so I decided to ask ya'll what you think.

Also anybody have a clue about how to make the fog lights yellow?[/b]

a 17in rims with 40 series tire is the best bet for both comfort and performance, and they really fit well on our cars.

With an 18in rim, you can run a 35 series tire, but any higher and it will probably rub.

For yellow foglights, you'll either need to spray it, or use an overlay. I recommend the latter, and it can be found in the sponsored section very easily. Should run you around 20 bucks.

with the XA, if dropped 2 inches..will that affect the stock struts? also with a 2" drop, what is ideal 17" or 18" rims? how wide of rims can fit the XA. how wide of tires can be put on the XA with out any rubbing and affecting the gearing by keeping the orignal rotaional mass? the goal here is to have performance and looks with wide tires allowing a comfortable ride. offset numbers would be great too thanks.

Dropping any car with lowering springs will affect the strut life. Expect 2-4 years before they blow. It can happen earlier if the drop is agressive or if the road conditions are horrible.

From what I've seen, anything over 7.5 in width will rub on full lock. 17 inch rims looks best with a 1.8-2.2 in drop. 18 in should be the same. Offset 40-35 is good. 42 may rub the trail arm in the rear so you will need spacers in the back to ride them.

Go with lightweight wheels if you want to keep stock weight, but you'll be stuck with a small selection and high prices.

I'm running 18" rims on P-Zero's and the TRD 1.5" drop and have no problems with rubbing or stiff ride, etc.
For me. . .It's the perfect setup. imo
Wheel wells aren't totally gone, but it's way better then stock (ugh!)

Check out the Luminics thread in the Sponsored Sales Forum. They have a JDM Yellow bulb for the fogs that looks nice, very Euro. I've got a set for mine...

Did you try going bigger on the tires? I think 245 is the widest for 17s?

you can get off brand rims in 17's for like $80 a rim. Then again you can go brand name and high quality and spend upwards of $800 or more per rim. Go with what you like and fits your budget.

Nope.

I have 18x8 in the front with a 2" drop, and they have never rubbed....even at full lock and bouncing. I can't say that anything over that won't rub, but I know 8" will clear.

i don't even need rim, hubcab is fine too lol i just want big wheels for better performance. What's the stock on the xA, are those rims or hubcabs? my camry came with hubcab, i didn't check out my xA yet. 80 per rim is a little too much, college student like me doesn't have 80 to drop on a wheel lol.

Bigger wheels aren't really better performance.. They're mostly for cosmetic. Reason being is cause they're heavier.

The xA comes with 15" wheels, they're hubcaps. I don't see how you haven't checked out your xA yet. Not to be critical or anything, but I mean, you don't even know the difference between hub caps and wheels, and you want bigger wheels for better "performance"?

What he said.

And, 80 bucks a wheel...you aren't going to find much less than that...even for knock-offs. You might be able to get a set of American Racing wheels at Sears for like $350 or something, but they are probably going to be 15's or 16's. When you start getting into the bigger "performance" wheels, they jump in price, especially when you start looking into brand name wheels.

i'm clueless when it comes to car, i guess i better stick with the 15" wheel, i've always thought that the bigger the wheel the better the ride, i guess i was wrong, i will not spent money just to make it "look better"
