Default 2 Scion XB Keyed Alike?

I just bought my second XB and was wondering what it would take to key the lock cylinders the same so that I would not have to have two sets of keys.

You would just have to get new cylinders for one of the cars. I would check with a locksmith. I would imagine it would be a couple of hundred bucks for parts and labor--check with Toyota as well on the parts.

not sure if your "key-less" features would work on both cars tho...not sure if you can program the same FOB for 2 different cars....but if thats not important.. a locksmith should be able to hook ya up no prob

I have already programmed both of my cars to work with all three key fobs I have
If anyone needs to do this (or program XB for new remotes, they can find out how to do it easily themselves @

T he cars remember each remote's individual code, so if you knew a bunch of XB owners (that all trusted each other) you could have them all learn one, or multiple, remote codes and lock/unlock them all at the same time. This would be pretty cool if you had a bunch of then lined up in a row when it's dark out (all runnung lights flash at the exact same moment on all XBs.

What happens when you want to sell one of your cars? You going to have to pay money to put back the old locks.

Sounds like a waste of time and money.

Just my two cents.

I think it would be okay on the house, but not sure about the one key for 2 cars. But having one remote for both would be nice, maybe just mark one of the keys.

All you need is to have the lock and key for that VIN number. When you bought the car, they give you that little tag also. Just get the corresponding lock/key for which ever one you want to use. Just remember, it might not be as convinient as you may think. Youll still need to keep different keyless entry remote codes different. Imagine unlocking one car that is outside but wanting the other locked.

Thats cool, I've got two boxes, if I programmed my remote and my wifes remote to control both cars, that would be much easier than carrying two fobs all the time, or trying to make sure i have the right one each time!

why do he has to do that?
will he tell the buyer " hey both cars can be opened with the same key fob and work on the same keys"
I think his idea is for convenience. I had all door locks in my house with 1 key. this is for convenience, so I won't carry lots of keys.

Even if you did that as long as you don't open the door on the car you don't want unlocked it will re-lock itself in 30 seconds.

I could of sworn I replied to this thread already, lol.

I don't think we'll do this, although it's a great thing to know if we do decide to do it.

We have four sets of keys, two with my car keys and keyless entrys and two with his car keys and keyless entrys. All have house keys and whatnots so we just have to make sure we grab the right keys for what car we're taking. Black for the BSP and the red ones for my TCM.

Yes, at first it seems cool but paying again to have it reversed will suck. That is unless you plan on owning them for many many years to come. Then go for it!

I feel an easier solution would be to program the fobs but cut an extra blank (flat old style key) for the spouses car. Then you will know which one is yours out of the 2 keys on the remote ring.

I havent tried it with the Scion (I only have one) but when I drove Fords I had both cars cut on one key.
I just had them cut one on one side and the other on the other side.
Only problem I had was when I had to have one towed and didnt have a key to leave with the driver.

If I can do that with the XB, I may go that route instead. Thanks for the idea!
