2006 xB mini-overhaul
To everyone like me who wants to keep their xB on the road as long as possible:
I don't have any major problems with my 06 xB(74K) but the suspension does seem too shaky and I'm pretty sure my engine/trans mounts are shot. When I stop at a stoplight and in drive the engine noise is so bad I usually shift it into park just to quiet it down a bit. I often look at new cars(and their crazy prices) and I realize how lucky I am to drive a great and fun car like the xB. However, I do want it to ride softer/better and if I can get the engine quieter I'll be ecstatic!
I took it to Auto Repair Shop #1 and they did agree the motor mounts were shot and they gave me a quote of $600 to replace them. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. I decided to email a few other shops around and eventually Auto Repair Shop #2 quoted me $360 for labor if I bought all the parts myself. I'm jumping on this because Shop #1 would probably be $2,000 for everything(they insist on ordering all the parts themselves).
Here's the itemized list of parts:
1. Rear shocks - $55
2. Front Struts - $65
3. Strut mounts $40
4. Engine/trans mounts(3) - $65
Labor: $360ish
Honestly, I don't know how much these replacements will help, that's why I'm calling this a mini-overhaul. If it doesn't work out at least I tried something, I don't think many people consider replacing parts like these unless they completely break down. I'll keep you posted on the results.
