Default 2006 xB/xA Power Loss????????

Hi everyone,
I was at a local magazine store down the mall and picked up a copy of Car & Driver Magazine. The Issue was "2006 Car Buyers Guide". Me and my freind Rick was lookin over the mag since he was interested in buying a new car. I showed him the Scion's since they have great value for your money. What caught my eye however was the Horse Power rating that they printed for the xA and the xB. It stated "103hp @ 6500 rpm". Did I miss something? I remember that all 2005 xA's, xB's is rated 108hp. I looked at dissbelieve so I picked up another magazine at the rack. This time it was Automagazine. Same thing, rated at 103hp? Motortrend, they printed 108hp? WTF I'm confused?

Or maybe that charcoal filter element in the 06 xA/xB airbox causes it.

What a useless part.

No change to the box.

They adjusted the method that they use to get the rating to make it more real world.

Go here: http://www.scion.com/showroom/xb/features/

and click on specs.

The 2006 xB has 103 horsepower. The last 2 years had 108hp.

The performance of the car has not changed. The method of measuring it has changed. This has been discussed at great length here, since it happened months ago for '05.

yes you missed something. No changes to the power output, just the way they calculate it.

The 06 has a different with the exhaust or some thing with the emmissions on it. Coming from the dealer in Raleigh NC. He said that emmissions standards went up in 06 thats why it has less hp than the previous years.

The power didn't change, the rating process did.

2004-2005 Scion Xb Spec on HP is 108
2006 Scion XB spec on HP is 103

Seems like the HP went down as well as the MPG
Seems akward most of the time MPG goes down when HP goes up.
Weird. But on the driving experience there is not noticable difference between 05 and 06

It "changed" because of the SAE rating. It was discussed on the website like, a good three different threads at first about..six months ago? Maybe more.

Nothing has changed except the way they measure the hp, as stated a lot above this post. No body lied, the motor actually puts out roughly 108hp but with the new ratings, it went down 103hp. This happend to ALL cars for year 2006.

Man, the new SAE procedures have affected most import cars. Just wondering in what standard procedure or method do they measure hp? Is their one type dyno-machine that all car manufactures have to use? do they measuring hp in certain climate conditions, or use one type of octane rate fuel? I know that these play factor when measing hp.

I can agree with that statement, at least as a general rule. In some cases, but usdm and jdm car manufactures hit it right on with hp figures.

most people cant even feel the difference between 103 and 108 horsepower, i dont see why people even stress about it when you're not gonna race, or be a horsepower nut.
