personally I keep the rpm's in the 3500-4000 range that's where most of the power range is at and add a 6th gear, that would probably drop to about 2500 and there's not enough torque to keep that vvti engine happy....just my thoughts....

I was thinking about that today. running at 4000 rpm is wasting alot of gas.

I often find myself reaching for another gear. It either needs a sixth gear or taller final drive. Toyota sacrificed a lot in order to keep the car peppy with larger wheels and heavier weight.

Anyone know if the transmission is the same as the Echo? The Echo has a taller final drive ratio than the xA or aB, while the individual gear ratios are the same. Might be a good swap for the folks who commute on the freeway.

I just want a taller 5th gear, the rest can stay. I'd like to see 80mph rev at 3200rpm instead of 4000rpm. 4th and 5th gear don't need to be so darn close together. Someone please figure out the gear situation and fast

then the car would be heavier, cost more, and get worse city mileage.

I Don't think a 1.5 liter toyota 4 cylinder cares if it runs at 5krpms all day...

I was averaging 90mph all the way to dallas and back yesterday and it didn't complain

one other thing to remember is that the car is geared to get over 30 mpg. it is normal for this engine to drive like that.

I remember reading that the manual transmission came from the Celica. I think the auto is from the Echo.

if we had a 250HP vehicle then i could see why we would need a 6 speed tranny.
