Default About to purchase a Scion xB - - But......... 2006? 2007?

I've got the money. I'm decided on colors and accessories.

But.

I'm afraid to buy the 2006 when the 2007 might be just around the corner.

What kinds of changes will be on the 2007? When could I expect it to be available?

What opinions do you guys have?

Thanks!

Default Clearify? :)

Are you so sure of that? I've heard the same rumors too.

The scion dealership assures me that there will be no major changes to the Scion xB until at least 2008.

They said this of course after spending about a half hour making a few calls. Although she did seem kind of clueless.

Does anyone really know?

Oh and what does "different" mean? A different body? A different interior? Whats going to happen... I'd really not regret buying the 2006 (even though I can't regret it THAT much).

Thanks again! I'm sorry if I seem annoying but I'm just trying to be careful.

As far as anybody knows the current xb is being replaced with something totally different.. I say if you like the current xb get it now while you still can.. or cross your fingers and hope like hell they stick around for another year or you will
have to settle for its replacement or buy used 06 later. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Speculation is abound about whether the xB will hang around for 07. From what I have seen, the new bB, you better get the 06. The new bB is FUGLY, looks like a boxed out PT. I say buy now before the xB dissapears!

Yeah I saw the new bB it is very nasty.

I don't want it to come down to choosing between a used 06 and the bB thing.

I'm still not really convinced they'd replace the xB so fast. Afterall its only been 4 years.

That and the dealer I've been talking to has been assuring me that they won't change its design until 2008. But I don't really know if they have any idea either since they can't give me any info on the 2007...

I wouldn't mind the 2006 at all. I just don't want to miss out on any of the last improvements the xB might recieve before that other mutant car comes on the market.

I say if you like the 06, get it cause there ain't much you can do to a box and still give it a new body style while keeping the same shape. Anything new will be really crazy and not as unique like the 06, imo. It reminds me of the VW Corado, really sweet car, that was no longer made but still saught after except with that they stopped the corado all together, not a new style. I have no idea what I am talking about. Get an 06, they smell good.

Well smell is important.

I read somewhere that there could be map lights, side air bags, 1.7l displacement engine, standard arm rest, and pouches on the back of the seats.

Could all of that just be rumors spawned from the bB?

My head hurts.

%100 of the people who voted in the silly poll say I should just get the 2006. Thats pretty impressive.

I guess I can't deny them... I'm not convinced yet...

The bottom line is we don't know what will happen for 2007. It's a gamble. Scion might come out with something really cool for us. Then again, maybe not. If you really like the 2006, I say just get it.

Thats what I gathered. I was just hoping that someone might have some inside info.

I guess I'll keep bugging the dealer.

I just picked up a '06 xB 2 weeks ago and have been grinning ear to ear since. Then I found this site and found the info on the possible change for '07. Glad I picked up the '06

I have wanted an xB ever since I saw them in California in the summer of '03 and I would have been very disappointed if I was to show up at the dealer having waited for the '07 and saw this:

(URP... I think I just threw up in my mouth.)

If you like the current xB buy it. It may be gone next year. That, there, is enough reason to warrant purchasing the '06. Besides you can customize to your hearts content and make it into something even more different, something all your own.

BTW, the day I brought my xB home my mother had come over to visit her grand kids and fell in love with my xB. She told me it would be a perfect car for her (and my dad's) needs (my dad has Parkinson’s and he can get in and out of the xB easily). She said maybe next spring she would buy one.

A few days later, Monday, I told her that they may change the xB for '07, showed her a picture of the '07 bB then told her I'm glad I bought mine now. Well that very next Thursday she bought her self one. She said she liked the current xB and didn't want to take a chance on the it changing at all, and that if she wanted a PT cruiser she would have bought one already.

If you like the xB as it looks now, don't wait, wondering and hoping the '07 will look the same but have side airbags or an 1.7L engine, etc... (BTW the current 1.5L engine is plenty peppy – besides, I didn't buy the xB to be some tuner street drag machine - That is NOT what the xB is about - If you want a tuner buy something else, try a tC or maybe something other car, one that saturates our roads, HEY! like a Civic, jump on that bandwagon.)

Run down to the dealer today and drive your '06 Scion xB home, not once looking back. And if the '07 model turns out to be the same as the '06 (even if it has more airbags, bigger engine, etc.) so what? You have been driving your '06 xB and loving it all this time.

DO IT!

BTW, here in my neck of the woods, the used xBs are selling for more than you can buy a new one. Imagine what is going to happen when the xB is changed?

Thank you for that extremely well written and thoughtout post.

I'm >-< that close to buying the 2006.

I'm going to wait another week and if I hear nothing about the 2007 thats not pure speculation i'll just buy the 2006.

Thanks so much guys!

There is no word yet on what the 07 will be. Lots of folks have said it will NOT be the bB as pictured above. I dont see how you can go wrong getting an 06 as there is practically no depreciation on the boxes taking place yet.

The deprecation would be me not being able to appreciate whatever improvements might be on th 2007 xB if it were to maintain the same body design.

Thats what I'm concerned about mostly...

Default I say wait.

Counter to everything that is being said in this post, I think it would be wise to wait. If indeed the 07's are going to be crappy, you'll probably find out a few weeks before they arrive. Thus, you'll have the opportunity to purchase an 06 while knowing what the 07's will look like. I love the box but its not as if its the perfect car...improvements can be made and perhaps they will be.

Thats what I was hoping for. An early warning so I could still pick up an 2006 if I want.

Any estimated time frame? When did the 2006s come out?

Edit: I just noticed I can get $400 rebate on the purchase of the scion and 90 days with no monthly payments because I just recieved a college degree!
