Default Acceptable dollar value for upgrades?

Hello,

I just bought a new xB a few days ago and have really enjoyed it so far. Not the typical buyer of one of these - 31 yo, married, 2 small kids.

Obviously, there's never enough power. I've been reading articles on the internet about upgrades on these cars but they just don't seem worthwhile to me. One magazine article spent a little over $1000 for an exhaust, header, and CAI for an extra SEVEN hp? Even $200-300 dollars for one of the above upgrades doesn't seem worth 2-3 hp to me.

On the otherhand, superchargers and turbos seem to be the way to go except they will likely void the warranty? Also, how do you folks know if the rest of the car (i.e. transmission, CV joints) can handle the 40-50% increase in power?

I have had my xb for four days now, and I think I agree with you. I really don't think the power mods are worthwhile, unless you really like installing stuff and tellling people that you have them. But I would like to hear what people that have CAI and performance exhust have to say. Is the difference noticable , particularly for the price? Should I bother, or should I just put that money into audio and accept the fact that I have a slow car?

I really think that an Injen short ram CAI is the best, cheap power mod available. The rest (headers, exhaust, etc) seem overpriced

Hey, I think those three power monds are worth it, .....if you find the best price....

The short Ram Injen is one of the best intakes,
Magnaflow cat-back is the best
and the DC header which is not bad.. and i dont think it will go over a thousand, here

Intake injen --> 140 shipped, self install free..
Magnaflow Catback ----> 395 shipped
DC headers ------> 190 shipped

They are all easy to install... and end up about 725 dollars and at a dyno is about
101.6 hp with all these and stock was 91.4 hp, a increase of 10-11 hp

so is about the same value as a turbo or SC, dollar to HP increase ratio......

its all about the price you pay for your products

So the injen short ram is better than the other CAI?

I need to do something, my brother smoked me in his jetta (and it doesn't even have a "t" on it).

Last time I checked, the K&N Typhoon put down better numbers than the Injen.

i said is one of the best....... top three i guess.....
so, can you all see that 10 hp for 725 is not that bad,

a Turbo prob 40 -50 hp for 3000 plus proff installation... which the most of the time is needed, since it is a hard install....

Dead on....the Xb makes a perfect "show" platform but it'sprobably the worst "speed" platform you can use.....
